I liked how most of the guys on the ice stopped fighting when the goalies started getting into it. "Hey look! It's the Main Event! Nobody wants to see our mid-card scraps anyways, lets sit back and watch this!"

That line brawl was kinda beer league imo.

What on earth is that dude doing going after Kessel? What on earth is Kessel doing swigging his stick around like it's a deadly weapon? What on earth are players doing leaving the bench?

That was textbook beer league.

The crap that went on over the past few days makes the sport look pretty bad imo.

Yet I bet viewership will be up the next time they meet.

Morrow signs with the Blues for $1.5M/1 year. The way Hitchcock is talking is that the move was completed to fill a spot in the top-9 that Paajarvi has not locked down during training camp. On their board, Blues fans are already showing a bit of buyers remorse.

Leafs sign Raymond, meanwhile Franson is still left out in the cold. Where the help is this guy going to end up?

Carlyle screwed up, Scott was out there to fight someone.

One of Toronto's goons had just picked a fight with a guy 6 inches shorter then him and the guy got hurt. Buffalo throws out Scott to start a fight, Carlyle needs to send someone out there.

What do you expect Scott to do? Nothing? Toronto's goon had just pummelled a smaller guy, no reason he shouldn't go after a smaller guy himself if that's who they line him up against.

It'd be like Kassian picking a fight against someone a lot smaller and winning (maybe Lander). We send out MacIntyre to fight someone from Vancouver and they line up Burrows against Mac to "diffuse" the situation (of course they want to diffuse the situation, your team just picked a fight with someone a lot smaller, of course the other team will want to retaliate)... would we want MacIntyre to back off and not do anything? Or would we want Mac to throw punches at Burrows or whoever they line up against him?
I for one would want Mac to start hitting Burrows, if the other team pulls cheap crap and then try to "diffuse" the situation and not let there be retribution, I'd want my guy to get retribution on whoever they line up against him.

Carlyle knew that Buffalo was going to have Scott fight someone, rather then manning up after the one sided fight that had just occurred, they tried to run away from it. We want our guys to stick up for people when stuff like the Kassian attack happens... well that's exactly what Scott was doing, sending a message; if the opponent is trying to avoid the message being sent, well send it anyway that you have to.

Burke doesn't like offer-sheets. So I doubt that happens unless there is a trade.

Does PRV have a point in the preseason?

The oilers should force their players to wear them. Look at the Hall face injury. They all wore helmets in warm-up after that. They should try to be proactive instead of reactive.

19. Finally on this topic: look at where the NHL thinks the cap is going. We're talking the potential of $80 million in a few years. Let's say five Oilers -- Hall, Eberle, Nugent-Hopkins, Justin Schultz and Nail Yakupov -- get that. Tying up approximately 30 per cent of the cap in those players is not bad business.
http://www.cbc.ca/sports-content/hoc...res-brawl.html

I think it's actually 37.5% as he was talking 6mil a player. Still, not bad.

They should be the worst team in the West, if not second worst. They have no strengths at any position.

Reinhart and Monahan will be a nice 1-2 down the middle to build around though.

When you say Reinhart, you mean Sam and not Max right?

Mmhmm. Easily the worst center depth in the league.

Watch out for #1 center Ben Street. Looks like he played the most tonight out of any center and only 3 seconds less than team leading Curtis Glencross.

We better roll over them this year.
