I think Tokarski can be a back-up at the NHL level. He's shown he can win and we didn't give up much to get him (Cedric Desjardins). It will take a goalie injury for him to get a chance though. Even if we don't re-sign Budaj, I think we'll get another NHL vet to back-up price.

Canadiens assign eight players to the AHL Hamilton Bulldogs

MONTREAL – Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced Thursday that eight players have been released from training camp.

Forwards Michael Blunden, Martin St-Pierre, Christian Thomas, Nick Tarnasky and Patrick Holland, and defencemen Magnus Nygren, Darren Dietz and Greg Pateryn have been assigned to the Hamilton Bulldogs.

There are still 27 players at camp (15 forwards, 10 defensemen, 2 goaltenders), including four players sidelined due to injuries: Alexei Emelin, Douglas Murray, George Parros and Davis Drewiske.

The Canadiens will play their last preseason game tonight against the Ottawa Senators, at the Bell Centre.

DISCUSS.

Who of the 'Bulldogs' are left?

Tinordi, Beaulieu, Bournival?

Tinordi and Bournival earned to stay at least till the end of the exhibitions games, Beaulieu didn't play much so they want a better look at him. All this makes sense.

I think Dumont should have been assigned though.

OK so the Defense is set....I guess Beaulieu & Tinordi start the season up until Drewiske, Murray or Emelin return.

On forward....both Bournival & Dumont are still up....may stay up until Parros returns?

Looks like it..

They might want one more game to evaluate where Beaulieu is. I expected there will be an issue with PP unit #2 since Diaz is awful and Gorges/Bouillon are even worse. Emelin is the only other good PP good and he's injured.

So, who's left

Forward: Plekanec, Bourque, Gionta, Brière, Pacioretty, DD, Eller, Gally, Chuckie, Prust, Moen, White, Parros, Dumont, and Bournival?

When Parros is ready, both Dumont and Bournival could go down.

Defense: Markov, Subban, Gorges, Emelin, Diaz, Bouillon, Murray, Drewiske, Tinordi and Beaulieu.

Beaulieu will go down after tonight, Tinordi may stay because of injuries (Drewiske and Emelin).

And evidently Price and Budaj.

Emelin is good on the PP, and has a really good shot, but for some reason MT doesn't want to give him any PP time.

Emelin being good on the PP is pure speculation at this point. He does deserve a try, but that doesn't mean he's "real good" on the PP.

And of those cuts, Blunden, St-Pierre and Tarnasky have to clear waivers. Just to be precise.

I hate to be one of those guys, but I hope Blunden gets picked up for the simple reason that we don't have to see him in the lineup any longer. I know, I know, but he's just such a wtv hockey player.

St.Pierre could be a good backup for the NHL.. With his age I guess he has to go theu waiver if we call him up?

He's a fringe 4th liner that will probably end up being an AHL journeyman, I hope he gets picked up because I don't think he will ever be a part of the solution.

I'm surprised Dumont is still with the club, he should've been sent down already IMO. I get that the organization wants another look at Beauilieu, but in my mind there are only 2 players that are ready and that's Tinordi and Bournival.

Tinordi can push Bouillon into a 7th D role and Bournival will put extra pressure on Moen and White.

Man I can't wait until the season opener

If the idea is to "send a message", I have no idea why the message wasn't send towards Dumont.....Not because he was supposed to make it that he actually could play poorly during this WHOLE camp and still last till the end. Rest is not surprising. Congrats to Bournival for staying this long...whatever happen happens at the end but he will really have made a name for himself. Maybe even, if he continues that way, that he'll force the team to make a move in due time to make room for him.
