New management things change. I don't really respect his opinions anymore, but I'm listening a bit more when it comes to things he might be hearing.

Pittsburgh will place Harry Zolnierczyk on waivers today at noon, per their team's website.

per Bruce Garrioch, Ottawa puts Jim O'Brien on waivers today.

full list per Tim Wharnsby

On waivers today: Ott - Cowick, O'Brien, Eckford, Lawson; Mtl - Tarnasky, St-Pierre, Blunden; LA - Bodnarchuk; SJ - Petrecki ...
Quote:
NYR - Haley, Syvret, Johnson, Talbot; Nsh - Piskula, Pitt - Zolnierczyk; Ana - Cumiskey (unconditional).
I guess Cumiskey didn't want to come back to North America just to play in the AHL.

There are some interesting players in this group:
-O'Brien could be a useful 4th liner/PKer for a team.
-Cowick looked good and quick in the preseason games I saw him in.
-Tarnasky or Blunden could be some good fill-in toughness.
-Bodnarchuk has always looked like he could almost crack the Kings but never quite did.
-Petrecki's a former 1st round pick that has disappointed.
-Haley is a physical 4th linerer.
-Talbot was in the mix for New York's back-up goalie position for a while and has played well in the AHL.
-Zolnierczyk is a hitting machine.

Agreed on O'Brien. He's actually quite decent. Cowick is physically fit, but he's literally years away from making the NHL. If not years - at least a year, which makes picking him off waivers a waste of time I would imagine.

O'Brien might get claimed by a team that needs a pick-me-up on their 4th line. Defensively responsible center, can play some PK, has some grind to his game.

He's one of those guys who fall in between having no real trade value, but teams might bite on him for free.

Cowick's ceiling is a 'tweener. I doubt anyone claims him... though I'd wish him the best if he does get a chance somewhere else. Nicer guy than most.

Damn, I didn't even catch Petrecki on the list until I read your comments. I remember thinking he was a huge steal for the Sharks.

I played against him when I was younger and in my teenage years. He was a monster at age 12 and on. Just a physical monster. I was hoping he would make it.

Bodnarchuk is a pretty good player. He could probably make quite a few teams. But the problem is he's our #10 defenseman.

Doughty
Voynov
Mitchell
Regehr
Greene
Martinez
Muzzin
Schultz
Ellerby

are all above him. I don't think Ellerby or Schultz should be but somehow, in the eyes of management, they are. One of the two has to be cut though so you can expect Schultz or Ellerby on waivers very soon. My money is on Ellerby.

Wonder if Philadephia puts in a claim for Zolniercyk. They have an open LW spot now that the Cleary deal fell through (most currently pencilling in Raffl or shifting Lecavalier to wing) and they were the team that originally signed him.

Seems like one of those guys who might have looked better than he was because he matured physically at such a young age. Even at his combine scouts were in disbelief that he was a teenager and not, in fact, a full grown man.

Loll, if a GM picks Blunden for his toughness he will be disappointed

Probably not Ellerby.

I still have a funny feeling it might be Martinez, Mitchell or Regehr traded for a pick or LW.

I wish Washington had the cap room to take on Mitchell or even Regehr.

Lol no. I can GUARANTEE you Regehr and Mitchell are going nowhere. Period. We let Scuds go knowing we had them and Greene. We need 3 shutdown dmen as we use 1 and 1 puck mover on each pair. Martinez is fighting with Muzzin for the #6 spot and Martinez has looked the better of the two. Really it just has to come down to Schultz or Ellerby. Neither is in the top 7 right now but we're going with 8 D to start the year.

Ill be upset if MacT doesn't claim Jim O'Brien. He's exactly the type of center we could use going forward.

Gabriel Dumont will likely be on waivers tomorrow as he was sent down to the AHL tonight and he requires waivers to do so.

The Jets need to claim this guy - just to mess people up.

"Dumont? Great shot. Looks a little young for 200 though."

In full fairness, I reported that Kane was the No. 1 guy before Chicago owned the pick. As far back as the fall, before WJC, some of my best contacts in the scouting fraternity, were telling me that (guys whose teams were not in the running for No. 1 and had no horse in the race). I talked to Tallon both at the WJC and the U-18s. I never got the Turris thing but I only really saw him at U-18s and he was terrible. I'm sure some teams would have looked at JVR (who was dominant at U-18s) as No. 1 and some Turris as well. For Tallon it was a choice between Kane and JVR and the former was the USA's best at WJC. Fairly easy if not obvious.

This was from April 7 of that year.

"Okay, off the top, there is no way in the world that Esposito will be at No. 1. I can't speak for CSS's scouts--I haven't sounded them out--but those working for NHL clubs have been down on him with only occasional exceptions all season long. The consensus among them--and I've sounded them out all season--is that the final rankings will likely look like:

1. Kane
2. Van Riemsdyk
3. Voracek
with 4 and 5 and 6 going to Esposito, Gagner and Turris in any possible order."

I was wrong on Esposito, but in the neighbourhood on the rest.

Almost half an hour and still no confirmation who's on waivers...weird!

Mike Russo says Jake Dowell and Tyler Cuma are on waivers. No word on anyone else.

I thought Bobby Mack used to run these out almost to the minute. Has he stopped with the waiver tweets?

Yeah, lately Renaud Lavoie and Tim Wharnsby have been the best bets.
