According to Dreger:

Chris Hansen met with Daly and Bettman on Tuesday.

Looks like Chris Hansen might be more involved with the process than has been previously known. He have told them we are basically at 'shovel ready' for launch.

Makes it sound like city council and county council are happy with the draft EIS results so far.

I think they are going to continue to say that expansion is not being looked at this point until probably next year once sodo arena is done with the EIS and city/county gave its final approval.

The good thing for Seattle is that it fits right into the league that is very clearly going to add 2 more Western Conference teams in the future. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

Did they change the arena deal from first getting an NBA team to NHL or NBA, or to not needing a team at all?

They wont' touch the MOU itself until after the EIS but who knows if it really does need to be changed or not

“@sonicsarena: Still here, still committed. Only the 2nd quarter. Still working to bring the NBA and NHL to Seattle. Still building an amazing arena.”

You've clearly never seen the Schuyllkill expressway in Philadelphia or the absolute clusterfork of interstates in and around Chicago during rush hour. If you kept a gun in the glovebox, you'd be dead inside of a week. Or at least a dozen other people would be.

Seattle mayoral debate is going on today
http://twitter.com/ChrisDaniels5/sta...65103742263296

Chris Daniels ‏@ChrisDaniels5 14m
Murray - says who will get left with risk - and a lot of it has been addressed by Council. Says he is supportive of #SeattleArena. #seamayor

Good news that regardless of who wins the election there will be continue support of the Sodo arena from the mayor

That is very good news. Last thing you'd want would be an anti-arena candidate potentially throwing a wrench in the process while damage could still be done.

Stienbreck didn't make it out of primary which was the outright anti-arena candidate. Murray wasn't going to stop the project. The issue remains rather the city council wants to move forward with the project post SEPA/EIS

There will be apparently two more TV debates between Murray and McGinn, with the first of those happening Saturday night around 8:30 on KOMO-TV, and it will be also simulcast on KOMO radio.

Video of the mayor candidates talking about the arena.

Verbiage from John Barr of NHL to Seattle:

Quote:
Here is the key footage from last nights mayoral debate. Not much to extrapolate. McGinn is obviously supportive and Murray said he would support the current MOU in its current form. So what isn't clear is will Murray support a modification of the MOU to lead with NHL. Also one other item of note, McGinn used the word expansion & he confirmed that he has talked to NHL. So...being the previous convos with the Mayor and NHL were about Coyotes makes you wonder what conversations have occurred since.

Verbiage from John Barr of NHL to Seattle:
Murray has no choice. If city council approves a NHL first option and he doesn't he have lied to the voters and his political supports (aka city council) in regards his support of the arena cause we aren't getting a NBA team anytime soon.

We have no seen terms of a NHL first option so can't assume if there is support from city council or mayor's office till we see the terms and i doubt we'll see said agreement until its a done deal.

Seattle's DPD is taking their sweet time for the final EIS which is a good thing. Better the final EIS the better it is against those that will file lawsuit against it.

Final EIS spring 2014 with possible councils vote some time in the summer

Comments from Leafs CEO Leiweke,

He thinks its Seattle and quebec city then Vegas and KC. But i disagree on KC. No government support no ownership.

Although it makes me wonder who he expect to be forced to move over to the Western conference. Quebec doesn't make sense playing in the central division

Not sold there is enough talent to support 32 teams.

I'm in favor of relocation, not expansion at this stage.

But, if I were to support expansion, Seattle would be on the top of my list.

Relocation will never happen any time soon. Relocation = no arena ever being built for Seattle unless NBA plays nice which they aren't gonna do that anytime soon.

With the 16 team Eastern Conference, I assume any expansion would have to include 2 western conference teams (Seattle, Las Vegas, KC, Portland, Houston)
