Serious bias......their career stats are just about identical

I was fine with Kopitar at 18 until I saw him behind Bergeron. All Anze does is outscore him by 20 points while playing comparable defense.

They need to draft top level players. Its a little easier to get those players drafting at the top but its not a neccesity. You're obsession with where guys are drafted is why you repeatedly dismiss our excellent prospect pool. This list somewhat makes the point I was trying to make in our back and forth a while back. This is one person or panel's opinion on the top 50 players. Other than the few at the top its an easily argued list that can shift a lot depending on what the list maker or makers value in a player. So to use a ranking like this to make an argument about the type of player we need is somewhat meaningless.

Btw Vanek was a top pick and the OP is disagreeing with his ranking. No idea what that has to do with your "team building" strategy.

Wow not enough Leaf players. The Toronto media better start writing pages and pages arguing for more Leaf players to be included. And demand a re-write.

"43? Are you sure you don't want to rethink that?"

I think Vanek's spot is actually fine. If we traded him for most of the guys on that list, I'd be pretty happy.

The thing is, I don't need this list to make that argument. It's just easier than us sitting down and debating who the elite players in the league are ourselves for a week and a half in order to arrive at the same point.

It's an odds game. You're never going to convince me of anything by arguing high picks aren't "necessary." That's obvious. It's about odds. And yeah, until our picks all pan out, I'll assume, e.g., that Nikita Zadarov has about as much chance of becoming Chris Pronger as Ryan Pulock has of becoming Steve Yzerman.

Always got a laugh at Nash and Vanek comparisons, as we'd debated that a lot on here back around the time Nash was traded. Nash is not better than Vanek; he's certainly not 20 spots on this list better. Nash: was selected 1st overall, is Canadien, had a great production in a performance for Team Canada in the Olympics. That's why he's 20 spots higher.

If that's how you think, then you're just being absurd about the subject.

So wait... Like 30ish of the guys on the top 50 list are NOT top picks, and that's supporting evidence of needing top picks?

Zadorov and Pronger make sense because they are both huge defensemen who can skate, shoot, and hit. Ryan Pulock and Steve Yzerman don't even play the same position. It's absurd to think Ryan Pulock is as likely to become Steve Yzerman as Zadorov is to become Pronger.

Whoops I don't even know where my brain was on that.

Let's retract that and replace it with a more apt comparison. Perhaps Al MacInnis.

I thought you were doing it on purpose as a way of saying "no chance". MacInnis is a pretty fair comparison.
