Stastny either breaks out this year and earns another big contract, or he has another solid season at 50-55 points and is a 4.5-5 mill per guy on a decent contract that you extend him on before the season ends.

Is he overpaid right now, yeah, beyond a doubt, but the odds of him stepping his game up vs. what we have seen the last year or so under Sacco are very good. His 2 way game is also something that would fit well in the Yotes system.

If Sabres start off poorly a guy like Vanek would make a lot of sense

Lol you can't be serious? IMO even the original proposal was an overpayment by Toronto. You want Kadri/Rielly, you add Gormley and Rundblad to the original proposal.

We just cut Miele - even if DD has produced at the NHL level, they are still more or less the same type of player. I don't think GMDM would be interested.

In case you didn't realize, the offer you just created is this:

Kessel, Kadri, Rielly, +
for
OEL, Domi, 1st

aka not even close for Toronto to consider.

But Kessel to Phoenix to begin with is just terrible.

By the way I forget how literal HF is I do know that Statsny and Liles do not have the same trade value. However I have been watching Statsny over the last few seasons since I'm a Leafs fan and have coveted him. He may break out but thats 60 points, he isn't what he was.

I'm sorry for saying stay classy, I was exaggerating with the trade value but my point was his value is low right now, if he returns to form then he can fetch something at the deadline. If he resigns long term then he won't be moved cuz that tells me that the Avs and Statsny have committed to eachother for the remainder of his career.

Well, it's obvious that Tippett and Co. thought Lats's deficiencies more than overshadowed his obvious offensive skill. Surprised by that cut too, but moving on.

Gormley+ is always an option.

Yeah, fair enough.

Still, I think he was the perfect fit, IMO.

Why even bother posting? You think OEL+Domi+a first round pick will only return Kessel? You have been playing way too much EA NHL. One of the worst offers I've ever seen.

Stastny hasn't got injured or lost a step or anything, he has been pretty consistent since arriving in the league. I have watched him his whole career and no part of his game has trailed off; hell he is only entering his prime. What has changed is his supporting cast. He played with the likes of Hejduk (younger) Sakic etc. when he had his best seasons.. since then Colorado has been in the bottom of the league with questions all over. This year we have a legitimate 2 top scoring lines.

If only they had an NHL ready power forward as a prospect...

Should have just kept Samuelsson up.

Ah, good point. That really only leaves one player that can be moved that has a sizable contract with the value of returning a top-six forward. Someone that I'd rather keep.

If Yandle is involved, i'm listening. He would be a pretty good fit with Phaneuf.

A deal around the following players could work:

JVR + Gunnarsson

For

Yandle + Boedker

Leafs would likely be adding, but could work as a base for a deal.

That deal doesn't fit team need. Trading Boedker in a deal designed to add a top 6 forward doesn't make sense.
