Gotham (coming on FOX)

Not overly excited as it's on FOX.

http://ca.ign.com/articles/2013/09/2...-fox-tv-series

Quote:
The series will focus on a young Detective James Gordon and "the villains that made Gotham famous." Bruno Heller (Rome, The Mentalist) is writing the Commissioner Gordon, which will presumably launch during the 2014-2015 TV season. Gotham will take place before Gordon meets Batman, who will not be a part of the series.

This will only be good if the Wayne's are in this and they show a young Bruce. It'd be kind of cool to see this.

I am surprised the show will be on FOX, I would have thought that it would air on CBS since both CBS and WB are owned by Time Warner.

It is interesting to see it on Fox, but money talks.

There were probably a lot of things involved, time slot, being a part of a block of series to enhance viewership and revenue, etc to be on a network not associated to WB/DC.

Right...the creative bankruptcy and copycat antics in Hollywood continues. This just screams loser (Birds of Prey anyone?).

Ugh, "focus on a young Detective James Gordon and "the villains that made Gotham famous.""

The entire point of Batman is that the crazies came when he came, the idea of Batman essentially created them. The mob was the ruling force in Gotham pre Batman.

This. The premise of this show is just crapping all over the Batman mythology.

I actually think the concept of a detective show based on some regular guy dealing with crazy super villains might be interesting....

BUT

I'm with you guys that this is a bad idea because it is set in the Batman universe. It totally changes everything if there were super villains before Batman shows up on the scene.

I'll give it a shot. I encourage shows like this or Sherlock.I'm so sick of these stupid cable TV type dramas whose whole purpose is just to make you go 'WOW THAT EPISODE WAS INSANE' with some stupid plot twists and fool you into thinking that they're good by using too much suspense. We need better comedies and scripted shows that are light-hearted drama or mystery rather than the increasingly gritty cable garbage.

There was a robin show that they tried to launch but was blocked by Nolan during the filming of the batman trilogy

Fox Casting a Young Bruce Wayne for Gotham Series

Quote:
According to the site: "A 10-year-old Bruce Wayne is among the roles that are now being cast as series regulars on the upcoming Fox TV series "Gotham" which explores the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon and the villains that made Gotham City famous. Under development for over a year, the project has now been given a direct-to-series order by the network, which won an intense bidding war for the Warner Bros. Television rights to the show. Shooting on the pilot episode will get underway in March, 2014 and will center on Gotham City PD rookie homicide detective James Gordon who investigates the double murder of Thomas and Martha Wayne."

Only question is if it can beat out Agents of SHIELD for worst show currently on TV.

Fox would be more than happy to get the same ratings AoS gets(6-7 million, last episode 9 million). Of course with Fox's history, they'd probably still cancel it...

interesting update that sounds much better.

The network’s licensing deal with Warner Bros. includes the rights to ALL the classic Batman characters — The Joker, The Riddler, Catwoman, Penguin and Batman himself. They will all be young versions of the characters and the show will tell how each became the psychologically damaged character we love today.

“This is all of the classic Batman characters,” Reilly said during the panel. “It follows the arc of how they all became what they were. I’ve read the script its really good. It’s going to be this operatic soap that has a slightly larger-than-life quality.”

Batman will be followed from the time he’s a child to “the final episode of the series when he puts on the cape.”
This sounds somewhat Smallville like but could be pretty good.

Let's not kid ourselves that AoS isn't complete garbage.

Because it isn't. Ratings are decent considering it's against NCIS, user ratings at e.g. tv.com have gone up for the last 4-5 episodes. You really think that just because you don't like it, it's bad? Are you really going for that HFBoards mantra?
