Don't know him personally but Mark Stepeneski form the Dallas Stars website who have been covering the Traverse City tournament wrote the following here: http://starsinsideedge.com/2013/09/1...ome-prospects/

Quote:
From what I heard he has a great attitude, a sense of humor and and a strong work ethic. Bottom line: there’s a lot to like about him, but let’s keep early expectations realistic
From what I have read and seen is only positives, he seems to have great work ethic and several people liked him at Traverse City from what I have read.

Saw he scored twice and had 9 shots against the Blues tonight. Did anyone watch the game?

Had a few posters on the Stars board go and say he was dominant every shift. Here's some highlights:

Offensive awareness, and skating look great as advertised, and he used his size well on the first goal...but defensive zone coverage could use work, but that's fine cuz I don't think anyone expects Bergeron they expect a Nash-like
player imo

Ruff on Nichushkin:

“I thought he was able to push through and skate well in the game. He was responsible for creating a number of really good opportunities and obviously scored a couple. And when you look at his overall game, you know he is trying to pay attention to where he is supposed to be defending and you know he has a lot on his plate but it was a good effort from him.”

Encouraging.

"defensive coverage" buzz word 2013

One exhibition game and people love saying that..I bet it was a race to post 'his defensive coverage was weak'

try harder next time

The poster you quoted gave good remarks except for his Dzone coverage... Why are you so taken back? Even Ruff said he could improve on it a little.

He didn't even say it was weak. He said it could use some work.

Don't try so hard next time.

No not weak just requires work as simple as that...I really loved the explosiveness he showed, and like I said the Nash comparisons are justified...I wasn't trying to slight him just gave my opinion

Yes, defense is his weak spot. He's 18 so that's not surprising. It'll probably be his weak spot for a few years, but the team understands that and accepts it.

And Ruff will make sure he learns it. He has worked with younger players on their defense before.

Yeah, kid definitely looked lost in the defensive zone at times, but holy hell is he an impressive offensive player.

Beautiful goal. Nichushkin is so good rushing the puck down the wing. Poor Matt Hunwick, he looked like an ECHLer on that play.

I find it humourous that people say he won't be able to do that move against NHL defenseman. As though every NHL calibre defenseman has elite speed to keep up with him.

He will absolutely be able to pull that off against elite calibre NHL dmen, and I'll be interested to see what people say when he does it.

That said it's also not his one and only move, it's the first goal he's scored like that in pre-season.

That would have been #22 Mat Hunwick.

And of course, it is the pre-season.
