Not sure if any of you were/continued watching the TVU broadcast of the Habs-Sabres game, but the Sabres analyst Robitaille had the following to say about the Habs:
Something to the effect of "I'll tell you what, that Canadiens team plays some incredible defense. They are one heck of a team." He called our D "hermetic."
In a post-game interview with Souray, he again mentioned the same thing.
And I just heard him again say the same thing once more (I'm listening as I type)-- they just complimented Carbo & Jarvis too..."great defensive players/coaches."
This guy Robitaille is pretty refreshing-- he tells it like he sees it. Praises the Sabres and the Habs as to very similar teams.
if only they maintain that stellar defence every game without brainfarts. Either way, great to see such a solid team effort tonight. i expected nothing less. here's to 4 in a row..
i herd everything too... he did say all those things ...also in the second intermission... i agree we are both similar teams... but buffalo def has more fire power.. but i like the way we played tonite... i dont get to watch much games this yr... i had't missed any in the past few yrs... but i seen this game, (not the second...from what i read .. i didnt wanna see it ha) but this was a great game.. a great game plan by the coaching staff..and another steller performance from Huet! Great character... go habs go
Your defense will look hermetic when your goalie is hermetic.
Amen to that !
Goaltender is playing solid, so D is more confident, make them play better. They feed from each other's solid play. Defensively, as a unit (including G and D)' I'd say we look pretty darn good right now ! Imagine when Dandy and Bouillon get their groove back...
We still give up too many shots. That will get corrected with time.
The excessive shots is also an operative of being short handed so much.
While we do give up quite a few shots, it's a new reality of the NHL. The amount of penalties we take does play a role, but I think most teams are allowing close to 30 shots a game.
Even Calgary is allowing close to 30 shots. New Jersey is only allowing 27 IIRC, but overall the average seems to be hovering around 30 SPG. It's a lot but it's what most teams will give up with the amout of PP time handed out these days.
Edit: that was cool, I typed IIRC and it came out as if I recall correctly.
The Habs gave the long shots and protected Huet very well, 30 shots is good against the Sabres.
That's what the MSG broadcast was focusing in on after the first period. Montreal lets teams take shots, but at the same time forces teams to take bad shots.
MSG >>> FSN for watching the Habs this year

Try listening to the games on 730 AM in MOntreal if you can. Dany Dubé is real good at it to... plus he brings the intelligence level up.
I missed the game unfortunately, so I want to make sure whether played well defensively meant that they played the trap well.
Just want to make sure is all.

We domined the 1st, after we got 4 penaltys vs 0 in the 2nd and the Sabres got the momentum so we had to adjust at that point.
I think our teams match up pretty much but there is one area that the Habs are stronger than the Sabres. Montreal is more physical. The Sabres don't play the physical game. That might be their one flaw. But all the same what a hell of a team

Nope, no trap from the Habs, just the forward coming back to help the D... and a red hot goalie!
