When you get to the point where people are rationalizing a single loss in a 1-6 preseason by literally taking away mistakes from your team and goals from the opponent you know it's bad.

They're thinking it's time to buy some new pads for Hextall.

So aside from the things that made it awful, it wasn't awful.

Well, Giroux played good. Read and Hartnell had decent games, as well. Everyone else...

Snider probably still thinks we're a cup contender. Homer, who knows what's going through his head. Hextall is realizing he's going to be the g.m. sooner rather than later.

Yeah, if you take away 55 minutes of the game, the Flyers won 3-0! Woohoo!

Yeh, it is not like just because they were mistakes means they didnt go in.

I think we should just excuse every goal and go 82-0 for the year.

'Well, it was Ovechkin, you expect him to score anyway'

'Ah, it was a 4th liner, fluke goal'

'I dont think goals should count on a sunday... it is the day of rest'

'Well, 10 years ago that would have been a two line pass in the build up, so really it doesnt count'

'If the old pad size rules were still there that would have been saved... no goal'

I do understand saying when a great goal goes in that yeh, that cant be helped, but excusing awful mistakes, nah.

It isn't, though. Where's the skill? Meszaros, Grossmann, and Coburn are nightmares with the puck on their stick. It's vital to have defensemen who can complete passes, and they simply cannot. When Luke Schenn is one of your better puck moving defensemen, you have a big problem.

Being big and big alone is useless in today's NHL.

Pretty much. I mean, the rationalization works if it's one or two bad games but this isn't one or two bad games is it? Even beyond this preseason, the last regular season, and the last playoffs we've seen these same mistakes and same problems season after season for a while now.

No offense to anybody but this level of rationalization mixed with blind faith is annoying and semi-pathetic. You can rationalize almost any goal against and for because almost any goal against or for involves a mistake of some kind.

Emery is at fault for two of our goals? Well, guess what, he's half our tandem that doesn't involve a clear-cut or established starter.

I agree to an extent, but our defense would be fine with the proper coach. The current coach just has no synergy with this D group whatsoever. Once Timonen retires or continue to regress or leaves Philly we're absolutely screwed till we bring in a true number one with offensive talent.

Oh yea and, maybe my eyes are deceiving me, but it sure looked like Volpatti jumped into Grossmann's head on that hit in the corner.

This is just more of the same. It began in the POs against NJ, continued through 48 games last year, and into this preseason. From April/May/Whenever of 2012 to September of 2013.

The omen is bad.

Thanks for somebody finally saying what I've been saying. Like I said, this goes way beyond this preseason. For a long while now we've had an underachieving team that plays horribly and nowhere near where it should and that stretches back a long while back to Richards and Carter days. The only exception really was the SCF run where, even then, we had to come back from 0-3 against Boston and had to overcompensate for the worst goaltending in the league.

That's all why this is worrying.

Hey guys, I'm not so sure firing a new coach with a recently acquired Ray Emery in net would be good for the team... Infact I can't think of a season the Flyers would do this...... Um, nevermind

Honest question: Do people think the system would change if Lavy was fired for Berube?

I'm more mad at Homer then Laviolette. Just getting rid of Laviolette makes more sense then Homer at the moment and if the season goes badly in the middle of it.
