Apparently both for $1m each. Good signings if that's true.

Good value. Shows that teams with cap room and a GM that is patient can get players to sign for a low salary.

It amazes me it took this long for anyone to sign Boyes if all he got was 1M.

I've even saying this for a while, this team won't be a joke next year. They are 1 year removed from a playoff appearance, and only didn't make it last year due to injuries. Barkov, Huberdeau and Gudbransson are going to play huge roles this year, and with a healthy roster and new players. (Thomas and 2 here), they could be a playoff team.

Which is exactly what Tallon was quoted saying around the time when UFA started.

Having no goal of making the playoffs helps as well.

Prediction: Boyes ends up with more points on FLA than PMB gets in NY.

Maybe, but Boyes is a turnover machine.

Having an owner that's willing to spend at least a little bit of money (time will only tell if Viola is ready to shell out big time $$) sort of helps too.

None of this stuff (okay, maybe the Barch trade, but that's it) wouldn't have happened with the previous owners. They would have just gone "sign Gilbert? but we already plugs like Gilroy and Mottau signed, what's the point?" and the same can be said for Thomas (Clemmensen is already there, why spend money?) and Boyes.

While 100% true - I think that a lot of 2nd tier UFA's got caught by the cap coming down. In a normal year, a guy like Gilbert get snapped up well before now, but with so many teams having cap issues, those players just had to take whatever they could get on a short term deal and try UFA again next year after the cap has come up.

It actually shows just how much the cap crunch is ****ing over second tier players (Boyes, Raymond, Gilbert, Kaberle, Theodore, and everyone else who signed for peanuts or went to play in Europe)

Can't really see any downside in the moves Tallon's been making. Smart moves.

Of course it's specific to this year. Normally you don't have NHLers lining up to try to get a job via PTO. Still is a good approach from Florida this season.

Team wins. Florida with Timmy T and some improved depth can easily bounce some teams out of the playoffs.

FLA busy today. So why didn't everyone go to FLA on a PTO?

signed Boyes, Gilbert and Thomas. I do think all can fill in nicely for them and if they have good yrs get a late pick maybe at the deadline

Barch ? 6th and 7th.............meh replaces Parros I guess

It's Barch and a 7th for Timmins and a 6th. Timmins is a smart defensive minded player, could be a 4th line center right now, but doesn't provide much in the way of physical punishment. I wish him luck, but we have a glut of forwards in that mold, both now and in the future.

Solid value for Gilbert. He can be a serviceable #4 d-man in the right situation, with a little bit of a bounceback. Great value at $1M for the year considering the recent market for puck moving blueliners.

Boyes...eh, nothing wrong with $1M for a veteran filler to pad out the roster alongside all the youngins i guess, but that's a pretty fair salary for what he actually offers.

For 1 mil each, that's a steal. These guys add depth and for cheap. Gotta love the new management and Tallon getting it done!
