LA-Calgary

To Calgary:
Jarret Stoll (C) $3.25 Million
Jake Muzzin (D) $1.00 Million
Brandon Kozun (RW) $550,000

To Los Angeles
Ben Hanowski (LW/RW) $900,000
2nd Round Draft Pick

This move would give Calgary stronger depth at center with a veteran; A young talented RW that can score; and a puck moving two way D Man this is also young with lots of potential.

For Los Angeles it first of all free's up some cap space; gets rid of one of our many Dmen; and gives us a big, young and talented LW/RW that already has some games under his belt and a draft pick. The loss of Stoll could also let us move Vey/Shore into the 3rd line center role.

So what do you guys think of this trade? Fair? Or is someone getting robbed that I'm not aware of.

CGY 2nd is too high of a pick, likely 30-35 range and nothing of real note coming back to warrent including this pick. Kozun does not fit the type of player we are looking for too small, we have a more talented small winger already and Stoll, while might be an upgrade just no real need at this time. Like Muzzin, but we also have lots of d. Pass from Calgary stand point.

I'd take it..

To Vancouver: Jarett Stoll, Jake Muzzin, and Brandon Kozun

To LA: Alex Malett and 2nd 2014, and 5th 2014?

We don't have the cap space for that.

How about just Muzzin and Kozun for a 2nd?

Don't need Stoll and don't want to give up a 2nd for the other pieces. Make the prospect better than Kozun.

Muzzin alone is worth a 2nd imo, and minimally, at least a 3rd.

I like Stempniak, but we don't have the cap space.

The second round pick kills the deal right there. Hanowski had a good camp so the Flames probably want to see how he does with the heat. The Flames probably aren't too interested in Stoll.

As much as I want to see some of the new kids come up, I feel like Stoll is the ideal 3C. He's gritty, can forecheck, great on the draw, a leader, hard competitor, and can still score. I do want to see what the young guys can do, but I think Stoll would be missed a lot, especially come playoff time.

Sorry, but Vey or Shore can't replace Stoll right now. This is a bad trade for the Kings.

I think the value favours the Flames for this trade, it just doesn't fit a need.

With Monahan still on the big club, that's possibly Monahan, Backlund, and Stajan down the middle. Hardly scary, but about as good as the Flames have had in a decade () so Stoll would be displacing Monahan. Giving up a 2nd, likely very very high, for a player that would be an upgrade but doesn't really fit a need during a rebuild might not be the best way to go, although the addition of Muzzin might be tempting enough.

Doesn't fill any Flames needs, especially giving up a 2nd rounder.

This is a bad deal for the Kings. It amazes me how many Kings fans are stuck in 2007 and want to just trade away players so we can plug in total rookies with 0 NHL games under their belt all because they looked decent in pre-season.

I wouldn't trade Muzzin for that package alone, and I don't really even like Muzzin.

Kozun for a pick to Calgary makes sense. That's about it. Keep Muzzin and Stoll and let's go for another cup run.

Outside of a young player that the Kings management has been stalking or following, I would say the only thing that would interest the Kings are 2nd/3rd round draft picks. There aren't any holes on the roster, in fact there are already too many deserving players fighting for too few places.

The Kings are in a good spot right now, I don't see them making any roster trades for a while, just releasing/reassigning guys. They might try to recoup a low pick for someone if they don't think they will clear waivers.

Stoll is our defense specialist and the best face off guy we have. You don't replace him with some untested rookies, no matter how good you think they can be.

If you look at it another way, the Flames are the team looking toward the future and the Kings are looking to content this year. The package totally reverse the logic. We end up giving 2 NHL players for nothing this season. This package does not immediately help the Kings, it can only make the weaker with a chance of turning this into a disaster. Calgary gives up pick and prospect, which is something they should be loading up on, although I'm sure Calgary would jump on Muzzin

Anyways, we don't need to trade away $4m+ of salary to clear less than 100k of cap space....

No way from Calgary. That 2nd rounder is likely the 30th pick in the draft.

Not to mention we need to get rid of veterans, not add more.

I believe the intent of the OP was to create cap space. That's something the Kings have very little of these days.

Honestly if I am CAL I would take it and try to flip Stoll close to deadline for some assets. I mean with some cap space retained they could prob get a decent pick/prospect for him. Hell I would of loved Stoll on TOR at reduced rate if we could of afforded it.

Completely agree with this. The Kings would have a gaping hole at the 3rd line centre spot without Stoll.
