Just like ive been saying since he came over, too determined too skilled to bust. It may even take another year, but when this kid hits the nhl for good hes going to be a special player.

Yeah I liked how he reminded us not to look for his skating to improve immediately, but that hes gonna focus on it and we'll see it in the future.

I think Granlund doesn't really possess much natural athletic talent, but a wealth of hockey IQ, reading the game -kind of instinctual ability, not to mention creativity and analytical smarts. Personally I find his work ethic and complete dedication very inspiring. He's a rare lightning rod where forces of cerebral ability and creativity join with inspired passion, devotion for the game and relentless work ethic. Hunger to improve. I wish and do believe that he will find his success.

His hand-eye coordination is well above average even by NHL standards.

Recognized he wasn't going to be given top six ice time, recognized to play on the big squad as soon as possible had to get better at fourth line skills, and addressed those areas. Perfect reaction to last year.

I kinda hope that granlund beats out zucker, and that he maybe plays 2nd line wing. I like zucker, but I always have thought that granlund could be fire

to have zucker competing with granlund for a top-6 spot this early in their careers is just a testament to the great drafting. I love it lol!

I love the sound of this kids work ethic. Sounds like he'll do whatever it takes to be great player in this league. I think he is ready to be a big part of the Wild squad.

Playing last year he learned what its going to take, and I feel like his confidence waivered at times but this year once he gets some PP time, and starts putting some points up consistently I think he'll really take off and his natural ability will shine.

Agreed. I think Granlund can add more than Zucker for the Wild.

I have always thought that the best spot for Granlund would be beside Koivu. I have a feeling we might see it this year.

It sounds like Granlund is doing some UFC training.

I'm very happy to see that Granlund is building his strength, especially his upper body strength. It's something a lot of young NHL players lack. That station to station training is really really draining. I've seen some of the local boxers and mixed martial guys do it, and it will wipe you out.

To me it sounds like he doesn't just want to stick, but he wants to become a good NHLer. Even if he doesn't make it this season, I think he will get to the big show and make his mark.

How is faster skating a 4th line talent?

I think he's just referring to the fact that last year he was knocked around pretty easily... this year he's much stronger on his skates. Not getting pushed around as much.

The biggest point is that he needs to have better physical and mental stamina, so that focusing on his defensive responsibilities doesn't take it out of offensive game.

faster + presumably "better". more efficient, more explosive. I know some people are used to fourth lines populated by plodding goons but usually a bit of speed is appreciated (if you lack the goon qualities). They put him down there and he didn't have the size/strength to play the physical fourth line role, and he lacked the quickness needed to forecheck and harry people properly which is what a guy like Veillieux or Mitchell does.

also a testament to the weakness of our existing top 6.

As I said in the other thread, he looked better last night. He was skating a little better and was stronger physically. Not getting tossed around or manhandled. He still seemed to slow down when he had the puck though, which he needs to get over. Still not great speed. But looked fairly poised and a little dangerous with the puck on the PP.

I think Granlund places his chip ins very well last night and was showing a much better understanding of the NA game, positionally, than he ever did last year (including the AHL).

As mentioned, he has to remember to keep moving his feet when he has the puck but I like the noticeable difference. He is aware of what he needs to work on...and it's not going to happen over night.

Everybody slows down when they have the puck. Get over it.

Me too. Wasn't good with the puck on 5 on 5, tho - maybe it's the third line role? Too early to judge.
