Phx-mtl trade

There is speculation that PHX is looking for a top - 6 forward, that can produce playing at the 2nd line LW spot, behind Boedker, who is the only reliable scoring LW they have. At the other hand MTL has a defense that might be deep at paper, but we lack a top-2 defender to be paired with Subban. I think both teams can benefit from a trade that can fix all needs.

PHX: Yandle (5,25M cap space)
for
MTL: Bourque+Diaz+Beaulieu (4,58M cap space)

PHX trades Yandle for a top-6 winger, a bottom pairing reliable puck moving defender, and a D-prospect with great potential (17th overall pick), which is a decent package i think, plus make room for the upcoming prospect in Gormley.
MTL makes this trade because they solidify their defense by finding a partner for Subban, and they gain great leverage in contract negotiations with Markov at the end of the season. They give up some scoring and size up front but at the other hand they open a roster spot for the upcoming prospects.

PROJECTED LINE UPS

MONTREAL

Price-Budaj

Pacioretty-Desharnais-Briere
Galchenyuk-Plekanec-Gionta
Prust-Eller-Gallagher
Moen-Bournival-White/Parros

Yandle-Subban
Markov-Gorges
Murray-Bouillion/Tinordi
ex.Emelin (LTIR)

PHOENIX

Smith-Greiss

Boedker-Ribeiro-Doan
Bourque-Hanzal-Vrbata
Korpikoski-Vermette-Moss
Klinkhammer-Chipchura-Bissonnette

Ekman Larsson-Michalek
Stone-Diaz
Schlemko-Stone
ex.Runblad, Klesla (LTIR)

Thoughts?

phoenix has no interest defense coming back in any trade. nine 1way defensemen already and more coming up through Portland.

No thanks, Phoenix will aim for a bigger return than Bourque. Diaz and Beaulieu are irrelevant

Yeah I'm a Habs fan and I'm continued to be baffled by the love for Bourque, he's AK46 Part II or even closer would be Penner, he just happens to be put on the top line, he's not top 6 material and can't see anyone else wanting him but I pray MB can move him

If we want a top pairing D like Yandle it'll be Eller or Gallagher + going back

Phoenix could get somebody better than Bourque out of Yandle and I don't think they would have any interest at all in Diaz + Beaulieu considering their depth in defense.

Here's a hint, we have plenty of defence not only on on the team, but in the system too. Gallagher would be my starting point from Montreal.

So you propose a trade that doesn't give them a reliable scoring LW?

Yes please. Not a great deal for Phoenix, considering the defenceman in their system.

Bourque is not a good top six winger at all and I'd rather put (our) Brown, Miele, Domi or Lessio on the 3LW(Domi on the 2LW) and move Korpikoski up to the top six.

I'd do Gallagher + prospect/pick for Yandle out of Montreal.

The Habs kind of need scoring up front too. Right now, they have some balance, even though no really top guys. I don't think I'd want to chew into that balance in a move for another PMD. They need a PMD less than scoring balance. Yandle is a nice enough player, but not a need for the Habs, I wouldn't give up what he's worth. (Nor even what the OP posted). I definitely wouldn't give up a key youngster like Gallagher for him.

I don't think the Habs make a good trading partner for addressing PHX's need.

Past that, the Habs just don't make a good trading partner for anybody, really. They don't have enough assets yet, don't have a clear enough identification of strengths and weaknesses with what they do have.

Doesn't make sense for Arizona.

Doesn't really make sense for the Habs either, since what they need is a Two-way/defensive defenceman with size. Montreal had the highest scoring blue line in the NHL last season, Yandle doesn't exactly address need.

changes that Beaulieu ever becomes even remotely as good as Yandle are very slim. he was 17th overall (picks from that range are not very sure things) and the fact he hasn't proven anything yet in NHL level and honestly i have not yet seen anything from him that would make me believe he could be top2 defenceman in NHL team. in this kinda deal he would be pretty much irrelevant. someone like Rielly or Trouba would be prospects that would be meaningfull when trying to get Yandle's caliber defenceman.

If the Yotes were getting a top-6 from the Habs, it'd probably be Pacioretty (OEL+?). That's a non-starter for the Habs, and for some Phoenix fans. I don't think these two teams go particularly well together.

I luv Yandle and the OP trade is horribad for the 'Yotes, but why do Habs fans think they need another PMD??...puck-moving Dmen are a Habs strength already.

Phoenix could get better for Yandle, but as others have said, this doesn't address either teams' needs

Bealieu has potential to be better than Yandle the way my 6-year old cousin has potential to be better than Bobby Orr. You don't make plans based on that.

Bourque isn't an impact top-6 forward.

Trading Yandle for Diaz and Belauaeu doesn't help make room for Gormley and Rundblad.

Yandle would be a horrible partner for Subban.

Stupid proposal from every angle.

If Montreal wants Yandle they better be ready to offer Pacioretty.

Never said Montreal would do that trade, all I said was that's what it would take for Phoenix to consider moving Yandle. Yandle is arguably the best offensive D-Man in the West, him and Pacioretty aren't that far in terms of value.

Pacioretty plays in one of the biggest hockey markets and Yandle plays in the middle of desert, so not that big of a surprise that one gets overrated and the other underrated. pacoiretty has 9 points more than Yandle last season and Pacioretty's career high is just 6 points more than Yandle's.
