Why would they do that? I wonder who is going to claim him.

Now we'll get an empiric test of if he has positive or negative trade value.

Maybe Calgary will pick him in exchange for trading Colborne for a 4th. But doubtful >_<

Won't be surprised if he goes unclaimed. He has a pretty big contract. I hope the Oilers claim Emmerton for the 4th line C position. Theres no way he can be worse than Will Acton.

I guess Colborne wasn't a big enough piece for someone to take his contract.

He'll pass like Komisarek and Connolly did last year. Next step buy out next year

Maybe the Avs could use him, their D is terrible... but I'm not sure a offensive oriented d-man is the answer.

I've got to say I'm a little suprised ! I really liked him in Colorado, never really paid attention to his stats in Toronto, I just checked... what happend ? 4.2M cap hit...

I think Liles has roughly zero trade value. Not a bad player at all, but a bit overpaid, getting a bit older, and not many teams have cap space. I think he's very borderline in terms of whether or not he should be picked up, I won't be surprised either way.

No we can't use him and we're not helping the Leafs with their cap situation

Glad that the Leafs made the hard decision. Morgan Rielly probably made the team if they were willing to make room for him.

Gunnar, Phaneuf, Gardiner, Ranger, Fraser, Franson and Rielly.

Why is that ? In my mind, Liles is not worst than Sarich, Wilson and Benoit

He has value but with the cap coming down, he's not going get picked up unless some team like the Flames want him.

We just have too many PMD's...we went from having none (after Kaberle getting traded) to having 3-4 of them.

if the leafs held on to 1M, will any teams take a chance on liles at 2.8M? i think that's a good price for him for what he brings to the table...

sucks that he has to go to the minors cause of the cap.

Gives them the option to send him down or be picked up. We've seen players clear waivers and stick with their NHL team.

Liles is a good player at 3.875 per, just not being used by Carlyle. Plus we have Rielly and Gardiner.

Liles is looked at as a dinosaur. A very expensive dinosaur.

I think his value is more along the lines of 1.5m based off of what he
can do for a team

However there's no point in adding Liles to just create more of log jam on defense thanks to bottom pairing defenders.
I would agree.

What Cap Situation?

If you can't use him that's fine but the leafs cap situation has no effect on your team's management... Even if you would be doing the leafs a favour. There is things called win-win situations in the NHL.

I think the only way the leafs trade him and retain salary is if they are retaining <0.925M. Otherwise it's more advantageous for them to keep him in the minors.

I am neglecting the human factor here, so you never know....Nonis could deal him and keep 1M on the books just to give him a chance to play.

I'm not trying to come off as a smartass here, and that D looks awesome from an offensive point of view, but it looks really suspect defensively.

That's this year's salary. His cap hit is 3.875 , not that it's much better...
