Where is this list coming from? If he ever was to leave NY, it certainly would be strictly to go for a cup. Quite honestly, none of those teams offer that chance. It would clearly be to one of the top teams like Pitt.

Regardless, he's not leaving NY.

I'd like Lundqvist with the Pens for sure. Fleury(5M) bought out, Orpik(3.75M) let go to UFA, Glass (1.1M) gone, Vokoun (2M) gone, Niskanen (2.5M) gone, , cap will rise by like 8M or something. Sign Lundqvist 8.5M for 6 years, Keep Jokinen around, sign Sutter short term, sign a chap backup. Pens caneasily afford him while replacing the guys we lost with cheaper guys who can do just as good.
I still think Pens are the best and most logical choice if Lundqvist leaves. As you said, they can afford him and not only that but, with Maata, Harrington, Despres all on the doorstep, letting Orpik and Niskanen go probably wouldn't even be too noticeable, especially with Henrik in net. Moreover, I just think Hank would feel his greatest chance to win a cup or three would be in Pittsburgh.

Oh man, if Pens got Lundqvist watchout! Too bad i give him leaving NYR a 1% chance of happening. His life is in NY and he seems to love that city. Although going from NYR D to Pens D i do wonder if he will struggle a little. Pens aren't exactly a team that plays D, although when we do as a team we are pretty good at it. Anything is better then Fleury, though.

Oilers waive goodbye to Schultz, Hemsky, Smyth, Dubynk

Sign: King Henry and promote youngsters who can play the minutes of Schultz, Hemsky, Smyth at a cheap entry level contract prices.

Lightning and Avalanche make some sense as possible landing places if he does leave NY (which is unlikely to happen). Both teams would have the talent to make the jump to contender by adding a few pieces.

Hank really loves NYC. He's a part of the city and the city is a part of him. His restaurant/bar, his band, his fashion interests, etc. I know that's not the end all factor for where he ultimately decides to sign, but it's a huge one. I don't believe he'd want to be very far away, so I'd say he could consider the Islanders or Devils but that makes so little sense that I'm automatically dismissing it, even if NJ didn't now have Schneider. Philly maybe. They have the need, they'll offer the money, and it's close enough. But they'd have to be offering something more than what he has. A more competitive team perhaps. I think a lot will ride on this year. I think we'll find out sooner than later if he's sticking.

Just to be clear, I firmly believe he will be a Ranger for the next 8 years (or at least will sign that extension) but I'm discussing the subject just for the sake of discussing it.

If Lundqvist does make it to free agency the only realistic option I see if Pittsburgh. That might just be the homer in me, but if Lundqvist were to leave New York it would be to go for a better chance of winning and Pittsburgh has their entire core signed long-term...Pittsburgh also would have the need and the financial flexibility to pull it off.

That said I'd be utterly shocked if he's not a Ranger next season.

Cam Talbot. Nothing to write home about imo. But he had a good pre-season.

I wish Edmonton...

he would never sign as a free agent

we'd have to do a ridiculous trade to get him

If he goes UFA, it'll be Pittsburgh or Philly. The other club will likely sign Miller.

I think the chances of him going UFA are low, by the way.

ETA: and the chances of him being traded, almost nonexistent

He's not leaving. But I'll play along.

Are you a hockey market? If no, you're out.
Is your team a cup contender? If no, you're out.
Are you a large, metropolitan city that will allow Henrik to continue the live the same lifestyle, or at least very similar, to the one he had in NY? If no, you're out.
Do you have the need for a goaltender and the cap space? you see where this is going.

Apply that to the 29 other teams in the NHL and you'd get an accurate destination of where he's gonna sign.

Still need a defender and a two-way forward.

As a Rangers fan, if we **** the bed this year (and certainly our preseason hasn't done much to dispel the possibility of that), and he would want to leave, I wouldn't begrudge him. He's the 2nd or 3rd greatest Ranger of all time in my opinion. If he went to a cup contender I'd root for him all year. I hope it doesn't come to that.

i truly believe he stays.

but... i can't deny the gratification i would get if the ranger's best player left NY for a smaller market... be it pittsburgh or anywhere else. still bitter over seeing the early 2000s pens (nearly half the roster) wearing blue & red by the mid 2000s.

The most likely destination...

The Islanders

Reason?

Most cap space
Need a goalie
They have more talent than his current

If I had to pick another team, it would be the Pens. But I just don't see him leaving NY.

Most likely destination? Right where he is. The team loves him. He appears to love the team.

The rest of us will continue to fantasize about him leaving & joining us.

It's fun to read all the various opinions, but the guy is staying in NYC unless something extreme happens this year such as the Rangers being absolutely awful...then I could maybe see exploring other options.

Why would you leave a place where you don't have to win anything, you can make top dollar and they still call you "King"?

He'll be a Ranger for life.
