Every team would like a Lucic but they are rare. Who will fight him on the Flyers if he wants to go if we don't have Rosehill? Maybe Voracek can drop the gloves again.
You still aren't saying what the point is in having a guy purely for fighting a la a Rosehill or Shelley or Cote (remember him?). There's no point to it.
Why should we have a guy that's just for fighting taking up a roster spot rather then a guy who can fight and play hockey at the same time? Like Lucic, Simmonds, Downie, or even lower-end quality 4th liners like Carcillo and Tootoo?
If you can think of a real legitimate reason to have flat-out goons like Rosehill on this team over a guy that can actually contribute in more then just fists then I'll admit I'm wrong.
EDIT: Also, as others have said, we already have guys like Hartnell and Simmonds that can fight and do other things well and you don't ever need to answer a goons call to fight. In fact, guys like MacIntyre and Scott can't keep an NHL job because they dominate everyone in fights and nobody wants to or does fight them.
Looking forward to the start of the season and i am not nearly as negative about this team as many folks seem to be. I rode my Harley up to South Jersey last week from Florida and got to attend the Flyers/ Devils game Tuesday in Philly and even though the Flyers lost and had a SLOW first period they had their fair share of scoring chances and just could not finish until Kimmo netted one late. Both Jersey goals were lessons in patience with the puck, nothing more.
I thought Harts and Matt Read were our 2 best players ( Harts skating looked improved to me ? ) . Gus was pretty bad, not sure why Bourdon is not playing instead, Gus looked pretty unsure of himself to put it mildly.
Did not get to see the whole team of course which gives me optimism that with our whole team especially our little ball of hate out there hitting and solid goal tending that can move the the puck as well we will fare much better than last year.I am always upbeat about our club at the start of each season and don't start to panic till around Christmas, hopefully Santa will be good to us !
Was the spirit of Toy Caldwell with you throughout the journey?
I will forgive the preseason...not forget it. Nor will I forget last season since so far I've seen the same garbage (slow starts, horrendous team D and a 2 goal per avg offense despite Lavi's attack system).
Until Lavi is canned expect the same inconsistency and erratic play from this team.
And those other teams are stupid for doing it too.
Got to remember that PRO hockey is a business, and the rough stuff fills the seats believe it or not. Anyone who says they do not enjoy the drama that plays out after a " skilled" player is thumped or given a cheap shot by the opposing team is lying or a complete peace and love 60S hippie . Personally i would like to see Hockey morph more back towards the mid 70s where the players enforced the " cheap shots" and head hunting instead of Shannahan and his folks..........Trust me when i tell you it was absolutely EXCITING hockey !
