Whatever. Florida is just biding time until all their prospects are groomed.

Huberdeau, Barkov, Shore, Bjustad, Gudbranson, Kulikov, Markstrom, Howden, Racine, McCoshen, Grimaldi, Rau, Trochek, Matheson, Petrovic, Robak, McFarland.

I mean seriously they gotta be able to build a decent team out of all the young talent at some point.

Castoffs usually do well here. I approve.

Not a bad move, if he does good and is on pace for 30 something points he could fetch a 3rd round pick at the trade deadline. I'm sure Campbell could get him some points on the PP (unless Kulikov plays on the top unit?). Not sure if signing players on the decline is a good plan but signing all those guys back in 2011 didn't look like a good idea either and they surprised everyone and made the playoffs. Florida should be better than last year but I don't expect them to do much.

Good luck with all your Panther bashing ladies! New owners. An awesome GM. Best prospects in the league and some quality mix of youth and vets!

Holy homerism

You realize that if those players were to have career years they'd have to surpass numbers like these: Boyes (72 pts), Gomez (84 pts), Whitney (59 pts), Gilbert (45 pts). I'm sure that's gonna happen

Also best prospects in the league is highly debateable, and prospects are not even a sure thing anyway...

Robak or Petrovik could've stayed, but they're better served getting time in the A and honing their skills.

They'll start coming up throughout this year and next, I'm glad they're doing things this way.

I'm pretty sure Matthias is terrible on faceoffs.

Because signing one of the best d-men left on the market indicates that Tallon would trade Huberdeau for Smyth?

He's trying his best to ice a competitive team to give the prospects some more time to develop and not ruin youngsters like Markstrom, Gudbranson, Huby and Barkov. Why do people have such a hard time grasping this? These are all 1 year deals....

did you really need the Best D man ? could have claimed Larson from Edmonton who is way better then Whitney

He said "one of," and "left on the market." But never mind that.

And clearly, Tallon felt that we did.

Jovo's out for the start of the year, so Florida likely goes with Campbell, Gilbert, Gudbranson, Kulikov, Weaver, and Whitney. I'd rather have Whitney playing than Robak or Gilroy. Presumably, Robak is sent to San Antonio and Gilroy is in the press box.
Robak had already been sent down.

Robak had a terrible camp and Petrovic isn't ready for the NHL yet. Tallon was thinking at least one of them would crack the roster.

Finally someone who gets it. As if it's rocket science to begin with.

Whatever you say. It's not like Larsen is a world beater in his own right. I also heard he makes a lot of defensive gaffes. Not that Whitney is a rock, but I think Florida is looking to take as much pressure off their goalies as possible after being 30th in GA last season. Aside from Sulzer and Brennan, I'd take Whitney over any of the other d-men that are on waivers.

They MIGHT supplant Buffalo as the 2nd worst team in the Atlantic at this rate.

A few years back, they signed pretty much everyone that anyone wanted, just paid a lot more than others would be willing. This year is castoffs who couldn't get contracts. Very different situation. If we want to play with stereotypes, I'd say this is a lot closer to Garth Snow's waiver wire poaching than to the season when Florida signed all the free agents available.

No, they don't. It is not even remotely inevitable that years of drafting good (and some great) prospects will equal wins, at any point in time.

The better these players do, the better the pick and/or prospects Florida gets back.

Florida building up a stockpile of young talent and signing veterans to keep the talent in the appropriate levels to develop properly rather than throwing them into the fire and hoping they don't get burnt.

Also, if any of these low risk signings work out they might be able to deal them off at the deadline to a contender needing cheap veteran depth in exchange for another bullet for the scouts or another younger talent to add to the pipeline.
