As a Pens fan, I DO NOT want this. Already have a fragile goalie in Fleury and don't need the two of them "pushing each other". Let Zatkoff get his opportunity. If Vokoun is out for the season or for a long stretch and Zatkoff just isn't cutting it, MAYBE you can bring in a vet. I just don't want it to be Bryzgalov. No thanks.
Bryzgalov was nothing but a solid backup in Anaheim although it's been a while. He was the perfect backup and had incredible playoff numbers and the sample size of those numbers isn't as small as you might think.
I doubt this happens but I guess it makes some sense, especially if the Pens wind up getting word from the doctors that Vokoun is unlikely to be able to come back this year. That hasn't happened yet though. He still wants to play this year last I heard but the doctors haven't given him or the Pens a timetable yet.
Bryz isn't perfect and has struggled mightily the last two times he's played in the playoffs but he's at least a proven NHL goalie. The other options are not good. Vokoun may not be able to play this year and Zatkoff is a totally unproven 26 year old that's never played an NHL game.
