Batavia's great authentic Indian/Mexican combo restaurant has now become a frozen yogurt joint. The wife and I certainly did our part to keep them open, but the area just wasn't ready for new cuisine. The yogurt place has an unnecessary z in the name. Disappointing from every angle.

If we're doing battle wounds, here's the lovely hip dislocation that has slowed me down the past three weeks.

I think I understand why there are so many little roadside places down here along the main drag -- narrow roads with no shoulders over any distance makes for a fatigued driver. They are working on making part of the Pan American Highway into actual 4-lane, divided highway, but most of it is 2-lanes and there is nowhere to go if you get even a tire-width off the tarmac.

I immediately thought of the line in Winnie the Pooh episode where Pooh gets stuck in Rabbit's hole after eating all of Rabbit's honey:

"Oh, silly me, that's not the speaking end!!"

On a serious note, that's pretty messed up...

I tried to leave him alone. I made a comment to him that I was surprised he had gone unnotuced so far. I also shook his hand and wish him good luck this season as I left. He said "thank you" and patted me on the back.

And yes, they were HIGH fives, damn it. Kid has strong hands and powerful high fives, no matter how high off the ground.

Vcv that's pretty cool. I saw Kaleta in Dave and Adams and tried to leave him. But when he's in front of me in line it's hard not to make talk. He's pretty darn cool.

Over the years I've had multiple sports stars (Hasek, Lafontaine, Kelly, Kane, Kaleta are ones I can think of off hand) come into various restaurants I've worked in. I've always given them their space and told my crew to do the same. I of course can't control if customers go up to them but they are usually with their families and I'm sure want their privacy.

Do your friends own a unit there? I recall looking at Los Suenos as a possible destination on our trip, specifically the Marriott. Real fancy!

Phenomenal indeed.

Only negative of cancelling cable was having to pay 2 bucks for the last 8 episodes of BB on Amazon Prime. Now I could care even less about television. Besides, when you're addicted to the internet, who needs television!

They are sub-letting from another Canadian who owns one of the units. It is definitely fancy -- the private beach club has an extraordinary pool. There is a helipad, huge slips for yachts... just stuff usually way, way out of my price range. It's good to have friends, though.

The wife's friend in LS was talking about the efforts the locals have made to make Jaco more family friendly. We still chased a couple of dealers away from the playground equipment by the beach.

We also went past a couple of places that I immediatly thought of ONG, given the scantily clad advertising strolling around outside, on our drive back from dinner.

Blow and hookers? I can see why you never made it all the way to Manuel Antonio.

Ha! Not exactly. We decided to not go all the way down there before encountering the extracurriculars. As a bit of a joke, we may be going to Pizza Hut in Liberia tonight. Edit: check that, I'm making fresh mahi mahi, caught this morning, that the wife just walked in the door with.

So Chain, buddy, when are you inviting us all?

Also to MM, that's the right thing to do. Kaleta was by himself when I saw him. Just said hello and small talk.

My brother and I went fishing for mahi mahi in Jaco, but all we got out of it was a couple of subpar sandwiches.

I used to do my fishing in Jaco at the Beatle Bar, but now its at Coacol. Its amazing how much Jaco has changed in the last couple years, I almost feel sleazy walking around with all those families there.
