He wouldn't get mocked so much if his feet weren't so messed up. It's really messed up how decently he did skate when he was a Penguin. I hope he's had a chance to fully recover from that and properly adjust his game, hope he looks good for the Panthers.

maybe you have not seen him play recently . he can make a solid pass, and a shot but dont expect him to do anything. cant skate anymore at all. has a turning radius of a ship.

If Whitney/Gilbert/Boyes do even remotely well for Florida and they trade them for picks at the deadline, it's still a win for Florida.

I didn't think this many people would care what happens in Florida.

Ryan Whitney- good locker room guy. Unfortunately, after his surgery, he had to develop a new style of skating to feel safe on his skates again. A "new 100%" I think he called it. That style makes it so that he just can't pivot. If the puck is in his hands, he can make plays that are amazing. He doesn't really make to many bad plays. He just can't defend. I Wish him the best of luck.

When i see his name first thing always comes to mind is that he is a good defender. But then i remember people saying he sucks for many years.

I dont see anything wrong with signing so many free agents. Thats pretty much how they got into the playoffs couple years back.

The expectation is that he will come back in a month or two and hopefully be a decent #6. He and management say he feels good and is on schedule. Whether he gets hurt again, nobody knows. We all expect he'll get injured again at some point though.

I would not be shocked to see every single one of the guys they have signed in the last week or so traded at the deadline to contending teams.

They might even get really lucky and have one or two of them have decent seasons and get a 2nd rounder or two out of it all. Imagine if Thomas has a good year and if one of the contenders has a goalie injury or a guy fall apart?

This... Tallon is great at getting value at the TDL, calling up youth and going into tank mode as he has done in 2 of his 3 years as GM of the Panthers. We have 3 vet D-men on expiring contracts, a couple of vet centers in Goc and Winchester plus a couple of other trade chips. Before the rash of cheap vet signings, we were going nowhere anyway so why not?

No, I know and for the most part it doesn't ruin my day. It's just that Panthers get ragged on more than most any other team. It gets to the point where other fans come to our boards just to bash us and it's childish and a waste of time. All the players that were brought in may not be all stars, but there cheap and for one year. No risk at all.

I'm just tired of all the Panther hate.

Good luck with all your Panther bashing ladies! New owners. An awesome GM. Best prospects in the league and some quality mix of youth and vets!

Let's go Cats!!
The best part is that the panthers will get to add to their already elite pospect pool at this seasons draft! Collecting the whipping boys from all over wont lead to a cinderella story.

Hopefully Whitney plays well and is able to resurrect his career in Florida.
He took a lot of heat here in Edmonton after the injury, but he's a great guy and I think this could end up being a win-win scenario for both player and team.

He's better than the two other choices (Gilroy/Robak) and cheap at 900k.

If he plays well, good. Might get a 4th (maybe even two 4th's if lucky) round pick at the deadline.

If he sucks, well.. he's playing the role (bottom pairing) that gets blamed for all the **** anyway.

I'd add that even when he's been healthy, he's looked like he's lost a step all the time, except during the series against New Jersey. Add into the mix those boneheaded decisions when he decides to join the rush (which works like 1/20 times), he's pretty much useless.

No matter how good of a leader and presence in the locker room he is (supposed to be), there's just a certain moment in a player's career when the player needs to know when to quit. Jovo has passed that moment already and for the team's sake, I hope he realises it after this season.

I wouldn't worry too much about it FLA fans. At 900K there is minimal risk. It is the tendency on these boards to go overboard with criticism no matter which team.

Is Ryan Whitney in Norris contention this year?

You are getting a player who was once talked about as a Norris contender

Yes, I find it weird how people dont see the positive side. They just want to troll. From Panthers perspective it's low risk. Don't have to rush prospects to NHL. Could get a picks for the guys at deadline, There still better than playing some other AHL journeymen. Last season we learned for good you need to have depth in your system when injuries hit. It hurt our AHL team so much too
