Drouin back to junior seems like a bit of a shocker. Not that I agree or disagree, but a lot of people had him as a calder candidate if not winner and sure fire NHLer this year.

How many people did a draft that included one rookie and took him?

So the clearest suspension out there and somehow the NHL still screws it up.

Either Biz Nasty gets 10 games or none. How the hell do they come up with 3?

I'd glad they voted in favor.

Burke just ripped bartschi in his presser lol, way to help the kids confidence. Couldn't do this behind closed doors?

Nice to see Burke talking about players like a GM.

If you want to develop intended qualities in a player don't rip him to the press when the team put him in a bad position in the first place. And theres a place called the ahl for development. Not sticking him with 3rd liners.

Ripping a young talent, who wasnt a top 5 pick, is counter productive since it is feasters responbility to develop him in the first place. I could see ripping a top 5 pick if they are stinking it up because they have higher expectations. Its relatively assured 10-20 picks won't be NHL ready for 2 or so years. Why rip him when he's following the path of those guys

Hah maybe, but blasting a prospect publicly just drops stock. And Calgary would hunt down Burke as Sven was the Taylor Hall, the franchise player, of the Flames rebuild

Sven's probably the Gagner actually, their franchise player will be the kid drafted this year or next. Hopefully Reinhart and McDavid, for their sake.

Thats what I see him as too, which is pretty normal for 6-16 draft picks. Not many become franchise guys. So its pretty irrational expectations to put on the guy. But when you lack the presence of a true franchise guy most people will put that label on the best prospect they have. Much like I, and most Oiler fans, did with Gagner

It's clear that Burke and the Flames hierarchy are casting aside Baertschi to make way for the all-encompassing wonder that is the Great Jank.

Poor Sven never had a chance in the shadow of THE ONE.

The Flames prospect thread on the main board is good for a laugh.

They sound like us after the 2007-2008 season, when we were hyping up our B-level mid-1st round prospects as future franchise superstars.

Remember that? Gagner, Cogliano, Nilsson, Gilbert, and Grebeshkov were the future.

The funniest is when we'd stack them up against guys like Toews, Kane, Sharp, Seabrook, and Keith and legitimately believe we were going to reach that level at some point.

The worst part about the Flames fans is that these guys haven't even played a game yet (Monahan, Jankowski, etc) and they're hyping it up ridiculously.

Big payday for Kessel today. Good for him, I guess. I have nothing against the player, but every time I see him off the ice I have to laugh. I have never seen a professional athlete who looks less like a professional athlete. He looks like he should be pumping gas.

edit: also, I have that shirt. Like, that exact shirt. It is not a shirt you wear to announce you just made 64 million dollars. Kinda makes me like him more.

I think Kessel got UFA market value. However, Hall's contract is going to look spectacular in comparison!
