The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that the team has signed defenseman Chris Bigras to a three-year, entry-level contract.

“Chris is a young and talented prospect with a bright future,” said Avalanche Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Joe Sakic. “We are excited to have him under contract and look forward to seeing him in the upcoming preseason games.”
From all accounts, Bigras has blown away Avs brass so far in camp.

It's in the prospects section but not in this thread - Australian Nathan Walker signed with Hershey of the AHL. He was ineligible to sign with the Capitals because he split last season between Czech and USHL. He was undrafted in 2012 and 2013 but is still eligible for the 2014 draft.

Eligible for the entry draft? I don't think I've ever heard of someone being drafted out of the AHL.

Per his agent, Simon Moser has signed with Nashville.

Also, I hope to have a new prospects thread up this week, hopefully for Day 1 of the season, but I've got a hockey pool coming up tomorrow night, so don't bank on it.

Report that the Jet have signed training camp invite 18 year old Axel Blomqvist to a 3 year ELC.

Here's nest Swedish to sign on for an NHL organization.
Hidden Ice Axel Blomqvist, 18, was awarded a three-year contract by the Winnipeg Jets.
He was released by Jets last week and had already played with Lethbridge so I thought that this was no longer an option.

I was moderately surprised Blomqvist didn't get drafted, so good for Winnipeg: big-bodied forward.

8.9(b)(ii) had played hockey in North America the prior season and was under age 20 at the time of the last Entry Draft, and signed an SPC which was signed and registered with the League between the conclusion of the Entry Draft and commencement of the Major Juniors season (except that if such Player had signed an NHL try-out form, which was signed and registered with the League during the aforesaid time period, then the deadline for signing and registering with the League an SPC with such try-out Club shall be the commencement of the NHL Season).

It looks like, since he was signed to a try-out, he should be able to sign before the NHL season regardless of whether or not he was re-assigned to juniors.
