Pretty sure Shinkaruk's conditioning wasn't at NHL level yet. Pretty easy decision to send him down, given that, along with the fact that he's better off playing with the Tigers for his development anyway.

Good.

I was worried he'd get nailed by some meat head at some point in his 9 game stint.

He's not physically ready.

This short stint with the Canucks should do wonders for his development.

Needs to get in some serious gym time. But he'll be 20 for next year and AHL eligible IIRC

I do think he was meant to be sent down...I can't believe he didn't get a sniff of the regular season. I know the limit is nine games. But why not try him for the five that Kassian is out...Let him get to know the pace on and off the ice. He'd benefit from learning from Kesler and the Sedin's and how they prepare during the season. Seems as if all the kids have gone home now...

If we kept him up for 9 games, we'd have to waive someone. This allows us to keep all of our pieces and not lose any at the expense of someone who should be in the WHL this year.

To the above poster, I'm pretty sure Shinkaruk is not AHL-eligible next year.

Yeah the thing is that a suspended player takes up a roster spot IIRC, so we couldn't just keep Shinkaruk for the 5 games until Kassian came back.

Shroeder is on the IR, but we'll have to make a move to bring him back onto the roster.

No problem - by the time he is ready to go Booth and/or Kesler will be on IR.

Yeah, I wish I could chuckle about that but it's more than likely that someone get's injured in the first month. With our luck it'll be both the Sedin's from colliding into each other.

Or Kassian runs them both over in practice.

Trips on a puck and helicopter high sticks both of them into Sam Gagner land.

Why I don't and shouldn't have taken any credence into what our media says.

He has the skill, I thought that was pretty plain and simple. He needs to get buff like Horvat though.

Had we not picked up so many players recently, I'm sure the plan was to give him at least 5 games. However due to not wanting to waive a player, Hunter had to be sent down. That's why it was done at the last possible time to do so.

Ya we all wanted him to get the 5 games, but it makes sense from a player management perspective.

I don't really think that's the case at all. There's all the talk about how Shinkaruk needs to add 15lbs or something to play in the NHL. I don't buy it.

The sort of player he is, he's always going to thrive on quickness and agility, no sheer bulk. He does need to mature physically and develop a bit...but just look at Patrick Kane, Jeff Skinner types as far as what sort of size Shinkaruk needs to be to succeed in the NHL. It's not that far off. Nobody is saying Patty Kane needs to put on 15lbs.

Both those players were close to useless as Canucks.

I'm a little saddened. I would have liked ot see him play a few games to see what he looked like. But I think mike decided to not waste his '9 games' and saw the writing on the wall like we all did. And that is that Hunter was physically underwhelming. Has the skill, needs some experience and weight.

I fail to see how Roy provided any use at all. Aside from being pillow soft and easy to play against.

Ditto with Raymond. Unfortunately more of the roster wasn't turned over.

Both Raymond and Roy are a lot less likely to be defensive liabilities than Dalpe/whoever. And both are a lot more likely to rekindle their offensive upside than the AHLers we brought in to replace them.

I don't get why they didn't just sign Roy to that 550k contract he kept asking for.

Incorrect CHL-NHL agreement states than any CHLer who has served 4 CHL season or is 20 years old is eligible to play in the WHL.

Hunter IS AHL eligible next season.

This is his 4th season in the WHL.

Roy didn't work here. Why would keeping him over booth provide anything different. I'd rather the power player for this team than he finesse one.
