That would be hilarious and just add to the legend that is Paul Holmgren.

He pisses me off quite often but he's a fun GM to have and definitely underrated.

Gill will never be on the same sheet of ice as Morin, ever again.

Hall, Gervais demoted. The Flyers loaned forward Adam Hall and defenseman Bruno Gervais to the AHL Phantoms. Hall could return when the Flyers place Chris Pronger on the long-term injured list and open cap space.

According to GM Paul Holmgren, the Flyers are about $25,000 under the $64.3 million cap.

If Pronger is put on LTIR, the Flyers would also have enough room to offer defenseman Hal Gill a contract. Gill is a free agent.

So I guess Meszaros is going nowhere and we're carrying the Pronger LTIR charge all year. Oh well.

Well you do realize he is " a mountain of a man on the ice" per Holmgren? He is going to scare the Devils players out of our zone by sheer presence alone...

agreed.. a total joke. why gill as a 7/8 dman? he showed absolutely zero in the preseason. and why is every guy over 35 automatically "great in the room"?? absurd.

Having Gill around so they can practice with four defense pairs doesn't bother me. I'm only going to get mad if he actually gets significant playing time. Gervais and Lauridsen need to be playing a lot of minutes for the Phantoms so they are ready to be called up if one of the top 7 is out for an extended period.

Adam Hall has been recalled today.

Quote:
A day after setting their opening night roster, the Flyers announced that they have recalled forward Adam Hall from their AHL affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms, according to club general manager Paul Holmgren.

Hall was loaned to Adirondack on Monday, along with defenseman Bruno Gervais.

Did nobody see this coming?

This was basically the exact scenario discussed, except Holmgren did it to waiver possible people, most people thought he would do waiver exempt players. He was smart enough to know nobody wanted Hall.

BTW, dipping into LTIR already. lol

Forgive my ignorance, but is there some sort of LTIR cap that we will hit? When you say dipping into LTIR, that makes me think that Pronger's contract is going to eventually hurt us this year if he stays on LTIR.

Well there's still Orr in Toronto so I'm not so sure Hall is in for game 1.

This move was expected though.

It has to do with cap room at the deadline, which people on here generally overrate. We will have $4 million or so at the deadline if we use LTIR. If we didn't we would have far more, however I find it unlikely that the Flyers would need much more than $4 million at the deadline anyway. But we'll see.

I wouldn't be opposed to it. It seems like he could be a reliable 3rd/4th liner, not great but can put up at least 20 points in a season while killing penalties and hitting people.

If adding that much or more I'd suspect we'd be shedding some salary as well (a d-man maybe). So all things considered its hard to believe we'd have any difficulties come trade deadline.

Look we actually agreed on something!

If that we're gonna happen I imagine it would have already, Roy came out and pretty much said he's not gonna be forced into taking any teams bad contracts and many have speculated this was interference to the Flyers.

So at this point if Mez returns to form (I'm not holding my breath) or at least shows he can stay healthy I'd think he could fetch more then Mitchell. Honestly though, I wouldn't really have an issue that trade right now either.

Its just risky territory to be in, it makes it hard to maneuver should there be a lot of injuries. I mean last year, Holmgren made pretty much no moves at deadline because it was just too hard to squeeze somebody in. If the team stays relatively healthy, then it'll be a pretty clean season for him to work with, but once people start going in and out of LTIR, it just gets confusing.

Are re-entry waivers still in play under the new CBA? For $300k I think Hall would be worth the risk for pretty much any team, no?

Hey, the Flyers are under the cap, if Mesz shows he can play, the Flyers need to keep him.

Negative, you either take the player and all of his money on the way down or you miss it.

Sure, unless his trade can address another need. A trade to address a need at the deadline is pretty typical for pending UFAs.
