bobo says so thereby making it true....but I digress

nice depth signing for Philly Hal Gill adds some intangibles and can probably still play 10mins a night if called on to do so

Always liked Hal Gill. I'm not sure how much he's got left in the tank but I think this is a good pickup.

I guess Flyers want to have 8 defenders, given the injury history of their players.

Ha ha! Cap space is for mere mortals! Paul Holmgren laughs at the concept of salary restrictions. Almost as much as he laughs – and in more of a confused giggle – at the concept of asset management.

Hopefully, this is just a semi-reasonable salary for a professional pressbox hot dog eater.

They are, but once they put Pronger on LTIR, I think they will be just at or a hair under.

What I don't know is if they have enough guys that are waiver exempt still that they can demote to get under the cap on paper, and then bring back onto the roster. Pronger counts towards the cap for a split second as they set their rosters, so at some brief moment they have to have his hit fit with the rest of the roster prior to the season starting.

His tank was damn near empty when the Habs traded him two years ago.

Agreed, we squeezed pretty much every little bit of use out of him before dumping him on Smashville, where he was underwhelming to say the least...if Philly has to use him, they're up ***** creek without a paddle.

Keep him on the bench until you're down 5-on-3 and then let him go out and do his thing.

Seriously though, I was a big fan of Gill on the Habs - great teammate, great shotblocker, great PKer. But man, if he was slow then (and he was tremendously slow) I can't imagine what he's like now.

So this year, it will be the forwards filling up the IR.

"Hal Gill is soo slow..."

"How slow is he?"

"He's soo slow that, whenever he hits the ice, the game clock goes backwards..."

~cue applause~

The way Philly handles their cap is going to come back to bite them. Unless they win the cup they are wasting lots of cap room on nothing.

I like Gill. He's a decent depth guy who can provide some leadership and fill in when we have injuries. Fine with this as a Flyers fan.

I still think we end up trading Meszaros and then bringing Gervais back up.

Great locker room guy. Needs to stay healthy as he's had some troubles with that lately. Good/steady overall #6/#7.

He's so slow that the first check he delivers in 2013 will be a check that he lined a guy up for in 2008.

Explain how it's going to come back to bite them. A few hundred thousand dollars of bonus overages is not going to be a problem next season.

There are six other teams also using LTIR and only Boston have a similar situation to the one the Flyers face with Pronger - a great player with a large cap hit knocked out of the league by concussions.

After what happened last year with the blue line getting decimated with injuries, I'm glad Homer is acquiring depth at the position.
