So Rolston already on my hate list. Its almost like they do this on purpose just to piss me off, at least it seems that way. I want a captain for once!! I have never had one as a Sabres fan.

You're overthinking it.

Rolston has repeatedly said he wants the vets to lead this team and his captain choices reflect that. I'm pretty sure these are the guys that wore the "c" twice in the preseason. The only youngster that had it was Hodgson I think

What do you mean?

Jason Pominville doesn't count?

I know and have said that myself.

But Co-captains is VERY rare. That's the part that smells to me, not the WHO but the HOW. Buffalo is the only team with co-captains this year, for sure. Whose the last team that did it, besides Buffalo?

I don't know... the 3 most veteran players wearing the letters... seems a pretty standard choice...

given the state of the rebuild it makes sense... none of the youth is wearing a letter, allowing them to mature organically...

i had different preferrences, but the final decision seems fairly innocuous

It sounds like you want them to have a player that they don't have yet. They put a C on a guy every year, and with the best of intentions.

Who is our Jonathan Toews or Sidney Crosby? Detroit got to choose between Datsyuk and Zetterberg. I agree that they should have just made it Vanek and have been done iwth it, but it makes no difference going forward as next year's captain is probably not Vanek nor Ott.

I think, you don't get the semantic specialities in his words. There will be just one captain per game of course and three guys wearing letters.
He was completely right whether he said no or not.
Hope that I am just trolling: remember how the Drury/Briere-Co-captaincy turned out in the end?

The more I think about it, I love that Ott gets to wear the C on the road.

See my response to jj above your post. It's not who they chose (I expected it and like the choices). It's the decision to make them co-captains.

I think I see what your saying. The idea of co-captains might have come from Regier since he is the only one in the organization with a history of it.

Haha I didn't quite mean to quote you like that. I was going to say that I kind of like it and kind of dislike it at the same time but didn't edit it in.

Basically I don't mind Vanek being C and Ehrhoff an A. But I'm not a big fan of Ott as co captain or co captains in general.

Back-to-back ECFs appearances wouldn't be too bad.

i think the co-captains is more a result of Vanek's contract situation.

Ott is going to be fairly easy to lock up to an extension

co-captain's gives them protection in terms of continuity

I dont see any reason for Darcy to push for CoCaps? I guess the argument is that Darcy intends to trade Vanek at the deadline... so having co-caps like is relevant to that in some way ?

Pominville didnt even last 3 years. I want a captain that will be here a while. Im pretty sure they will announce a Steve Ott extension soon so that will make me feel better about it.

Basically, yes.

I just don't understand the point of it because of how rare it is. But when you consider the team history, it's the only variable that becomes remotely relevant as to why co-captains.

One thing I really didnt want was Vanek wearing the C without a deal, so maybe this means Vanek is more open to staying.

We may have to add another lost captain to Regier's resume, the list is long.

Between this and the Kessel signing, I bet Vanek's a happy man today.

I have a feeling we'll be revisiting this discussion... again... next season.

I think Rolston had final say. But Im also sure that Darcy had input.

While I'm not a fan of co-captains, i think given the state of the franchise (rebuild, contracts, etc), I think it was a logical starting point.

You mean two lost captains. They'll both be gone by the deadline. It's why I like it so much. Let Myers play himself into it, and let teams overpay for our fearless leaders.
