This, good depth guy that is cheap. Look at Flyers top 6 last year for last month and you will see why Holmer is adding depth D men !

Hal Gill looked brutal for Preds last year

Not sure there is anything left in tank to be honest

The Flyers had to use 12 different D-men in a shortened season. He is signed to be a #7-#8 in case a defensive d-man gets hurt(Grossmann)

I guess they were waiting for the hybrid icing rule to be approved to sign Gill.

I really don't have a problem with 700k for a 7/8th d-man, but that is a killer line.

Seriously though, I was a big fan of Gill on the Habs - great teammate, great shotblocker, great PKer. But man, if he was slow then (and he was tremendously slow) I can't imagine what he's like now.
My feelings as well. He was great for us once upon a time. Now... well, I wonder if he could outrace a tortoise with a broken foot.

Depending on how much he has left I think this could be a decent pick up, but reading this thread it seems like he doesn't have much left.

This is the type of contract that Volchenkov should be earning.... unfortunatly for me, that isn't the case.

I'm not even certain that he's a better option then Gill at this point and that's a sad thing to say.

With that said, solid move for the Flyers cause the "King of all cones" will fit right in... you know, since he'll be wearing orange and black

No biggie, only 700k. Will most likely play under 20 games this season as the 7th/8th dman.

Depth move nothing more. Sometimes you can never have enough depth.

The last time I paid attention to Gill was that series against the Habs.

Good thing they signed him early today. At the pace he moves he should arrive in time for the first game.

Yep. God forbid the Flyers go a single season without a useless signing like this.

Excuse me while I hold my breath until the brain damage lets me forget Homer's signings like this, Shelley, Gervais, Leighton, etc.

People like to joke about Gill but he was a big part of the recent playoff runs that the Habs made. Goalies love the game that Gill plays and defensive stability has always been the Achilles heel of the Flyers. If Gill can return to his from from three season ago or so then it's a perfect move for Philly.

My chief grief with it is Lavi doesn't know what to do with dmen like Gill. Gill isn't well suited for the system Lavi is attempting to run, assuming Lavi himself even knows what he's trying to run.

This is about as bad as a signing gets in terms of team needs and wasting cap space for no reason.

He's a redundant waste as we already have a plethora of fringe D ready to go, he's old and used up at this point, he's arguably the slowest player in the NHL, and he's quite possibly the worst match for Laviolette's system and the Flyers team needs as possible.

Which other defenseman was available for $700k?
