Someone on that blueline has to be injured. He's a pylon with water noodle arms as of now.

Gill is no longer a top four defender but is still a role player on the bottom pairing and leader for the locker room.

I'm not sure he's ever been a "top four" defender. Last season, he didn't look capable of even bottom pairing\PK specialty work.

And we didn't claim Grabovski because....
I know he won't have a hat trick with an added assist every game, but he would have looked good in Gold!!!!

Was about to post this. I know it is waaay too early to be saying we should have added him, but I'd put money on no Pred having 3 goals in our first 4-5 games, much less a hatty in the first.

... because of off ice antics. I've heard rumors of character issues (hitting a woman and conflict with teammates) and the potential for another Radulov and Kostityn incident. Poile paid top dollar for "Predator Type" players this summer. He doesn't fit the mold. So Grabo scores goals. Radulov scores goals too. I'm fine with letting Radu skulk back to Russia. And I'm fine with passing on Grabovski.

Actually I heard we did inquire about him, he just didn't want to come here, interest has to work both ways.

Anyway, anyone else sad to see Erat only get 9 minutes of ice time on the 4th line. At the same time glad to see Latta make the team. Funny, he was well behind Beck and Watson on our depth chart.

we could have claimed grab on waivers at a price tag of 5.5 mil and he wouldnt have had a choice..

and you did notice washington gave uo 6 goals and lost, didnt you??

they are still playing Jack Hillen on defense FFS...

Latta making the team as a 4th line grinder doesnt mean anything compared to Beck and Watson who are destined for top 6 six or at least top 9 spots.

also I wouldnt rule out some conscious effort on the caps part to play Latta to try to convince themselves they didnt get fleeced over Forsberg

Poile isn't going to force anyone to play here that doesn't want to play here. So he wouldn't do claim a guy that wouldn't be here, besides I'm just passing what I've heard. We inquired about him, he didn't want to play here we moved on.

Washington still needs a better group of defensemen, I don't know why they didn't address this offseason instead of upping their offense again.

It sucks for Erat being moved to the 4th line and having to play with kids.

29 teams passing on Grabo while on waivers then the amount of time he spent on the FA market leave me wondering why things transpired as they did. The he had a hat trick, oh Poile why didn't you get him when he was available line of thought made me think back to Mark Parrish for some reason.

And I'm quite sure that would have made for a very effective hockey player. Don't you?

After the incidents with The Former #7 up here, I think such a course of action would utterly horrify me.

Grabo is playing with better offensive players in Washington than he would here. I'm not saying he would be a bad player here, but look at the guys in on his goals. Green, Ovechkin, Backstrom and one former Predator (Ward). Two goals on the powerplay. One assist on an Ovie goal.

Sorry, but the cap hell we would have been in by picking him up wasn't really worth the question marks (would he perform well here? would he have been happy here?)

Also, it's been one game against a Hawks team with an average goalie.

I'm honestly not sure which off-ice antics would project him to be a Radulov-type player. The most recent thing would be his calling out of Toronto, which, at least in my opinion, shows his passion for the game and the NHL. He also has been very open about his desire to stay in NA. His on-ice play has shown for years that he will play all areas of the ice.

I'm fine with passing on him, but the comparisons to Radulov are tenuous at best as far as I'm concerned.

I thought he got married when FA opened.

Grabovski's fighting incident during the olympics was 4 years ago. He's grown up a considerable amount since then. He's gotten married and has a child. Anyone who's been through that process knows that it changes you. It was unfortunate to see him mouth off to the toronto media about being mis-used under Carlyle on his way out, but as cliche as it sounds, he wears his heart on his sleeve and is extremely passionate about the game of hockey. He can be a bit of a loose cannon on the ice, which is why I don't think there would have been considerable interest in him on the Preds end of things, but the flack he gets for the off ice stuff isn't warranted.

So what if Grabo doesn't score another goal until, say, January? Is it still a "woulda-shoulda-coulda" then?

"Minor penalty, #999, two minutes for boarding."

Go to penalty box, feel shame.

Poile on fighting

Quote:
Veteran Nashville Predators GM David Poile, also the GM of Team USA for Sochi, agreed with Bowman.

"The players need to have a voice in this, it’s their game as much as ours. We as managers meet on a regular basis, three or four times a year, and every meeting the last few years has been about safety, including fighting. It’s about making it a safer environment for the players. But I haven’t heard one player say he doesn’t want fighting in the game. We need to figure this out together."
