Gill is nothing short of below mediocre. The only solid thing he brought to the Habs, and that's what 3 or 4 years ago, was his PK presence and that's about it. He's a slow as slow can be when playing 5 on 5 and we all know he won't be seeing any minutes on the PP.

At the end of the day, he's a PK specialist that isn't all that good at the one thing he was known for in the past couple of years.

Great move for the Flyers... because they're in the same division as my Devils

If Grossmann and Mezsaros get hurt?

Yes.

If not, Gill doesn't dress, and none of this is an issue. His cap hit for sitting in the press box doesn't hurt the organization, as far as I can tell.

Beyond our top six we have Gustafsson, Bourdon, Gervais, Manning, and Lauridsen. That's more then enough depth and if, by some really odd bad luck, we had a mad rash of injuries on D where our depth ran out there's always emergency contracts and random free agents (which Gill likely would have been one of) as well as minor trades to fill that.

Before you say Gill fills the role of Grossmann or Meszaros better, which I know you will, literally every D besides Gill that's either on our roster or mentioned above fits the Flyers system and method of play better then Gill.

- Bourdon is hurt, and is unlikely to play again.

- Manning and Lauridsen have not proven that they can play consistently at an NHL level.

- I'm already assuming Gustafsson is playing when I suggest that there would need to be two injuries.

- In the event that two of Coburn, Schenn, Grossmann, and Mezsaros are out, I'd rather Gill in the line-up than Gervais.

In other words, I disagree with your basic premise--that the players available in the Flyers system are better suited to a #8D role than Gill. I'd rather leave Alt, Lauridsen, etc. down in Glen Falls in the event that the Flyers suffer a bunch of injuries on the blue line.

Bourdon is still suffering from concussions and Gervais is definitely not an upgrade. Lauridsen would be my first call-up, but Gill will provide a veteran presence in practice and just sit in the press box. Not a bad investment when you are trying to develop some defensemen.

Mark Eaton. Did a good job last year. Wouldn't have been a terrible option and is familiar in that role.

He will be a situational fill in. If Grossmann goes down or Schenn goes down you can plug another physical dman in for only $700K. You have Gus and Gervais available if you need to replace a puck moving dman like Streit or Kimmo.

I don't see this as a big risk signing.

Wow, I completely forgot about him. I would have much rather signed him as opposed to signing gill. I thought he was decent in his time here last year, and I can't imagine him expecting a bunch more salary than what we just paid gill.

I know he missed the remainder of last season with a concussion, I wonder if he's just not fully healthy yet? Or maybe he did retire idk haha.

Signing with the Flyers is the only logical destination for a man of Gill's color.

That sucks. What White did to him was disgraceful and completely unnecessary.

Lmao, that's great.

Alright signing for a 7/8 D, though I doubt he has much, if anything, left in him.

It's a decent depth signing. Dirt cheap. I've always liked Gill even though he's played for a ton of my team's rivals.

I'd personally rather play him than Gervais. He shouldn't be in the Flyers' top six, so what harm is it? He'll play when he's needed and sit in the press box the rest. Not a bad guy to have around the team either. He has a Cup ring and has been a leader during his career.

He's slow but when he gets a chance to play he'll be good on the PK still. He fits the typical Flyers mold of mean and nasty and he can still clear the crease. You could do much worse for depth.

The Flyers would have had to give Detroit a 7th if they signed Huskins IIRC.

Glad for him but watching him on the Preds last year was brutal. You could tell he just couldn't keep up with the game at all. I hope for Flyers' fans sake that he doesn't get much TOI.
