It's true that Price has been good until that breakaway goal... But at the end of the day, that's the goal that puts the Leafs in the lead. That's the goal that just nullified all of the work the Habs put into this game up to this point. That's the goal that could make us lose two points.
I want to see Price succeed and live up to his contract, but at some point, we need to stop excusing his mistakes and glorifying his nice saves. He needs to become consistent.
Dream on - Price is not a stud, he is just a mediocre goalie, no more. He is very fortunate to have made the $ he has. Overplayed IMO.
I really can't take it anymore. It's become pure stupidity. The over-analysis is sickening. He let in a breakaway goal, big ****ing whoop.
It's not the letting in of a breakaway goal - everyone knows the odds are stacked against a goalie from the start. It's also how you look doing it, though, and Price was small, low, and backing up way to far on that one. That's just a fact, but says nothing about the other 39.XX minutes of play, when he was pretty solid... aside from the numerous bobbled/mishandled shots, the scrambling, and getting beaten glove side by Phaneuf, of course.
2 things I'd love to see Price working on....close range, keep your freakin stick flat on the ice protecting the 5-hole. Price is big. A guy close range CANNOT score on you except....5-hole. If the stick is there, they do not score. And he still moves a lot in front of his net. He doesn't need to. He fix this, he becomes better.
Having said that, he wasn't weak tonight. He had a very good game so far. But didn't save the day. That breakaway would have been a turnover.
Anyway, 3rd period coming. Nothing is done obviously.
But that is Price: Good BUT doesn't save the day. The questions is whether that's good enough.
