John Gibson

What do you think is fair value for John Gibson given the recent trade of Schneider?

He seems one of the most promising young goaltenders in the league but is he worth a mid-round to late 1st given he still has a long-way to come to establish himself as a legit NHL goaltender?

I do have to say I love his attitude. Seems so level-headed.

Anaheim isn't going to move him. You realize that, right?

Yeah, I realize that is very unlikely.

I'm more interested in establishing what other teams would be willing to be pay for Gibson.

not enough to make it worth Anaheim's while, ponying up a good price for a goalie who has 1 AHL game under his belt isn't very smart.

If the price for Gibson was a late-round first Pittsburgh would have acquired him already. He's a top prospect. People were talking about him as part of a Letang deal.

If I had to guess, it would be a mid 1st round pick. That wouldn't be enough to get him, but that's what I'd expect to be the average offer.

That's what I'd guess as well. It's so hard to guage goalies values. Gibson was a second round pick(iirc) to start with and his development has been pretty incredible and yet it's still not like he'd garner a top-10 pick.

It seems teams have to be so sure they are drafting the right guy if they take a goalie with a 1st rounder.

No way Ducks move him. They'll wait and see how he pans out. He's looking great already.

Yep, see my second post above. I'm trying to establish what other teams would pay for Gibson as I realize the Ducks would not be looking to move him.

Yeah, it's true. It's also exactly why you wouldn't see a goalie prospect like him moved at this point. Like wej20 said, teams just aren't going to want to fork over the value that Anaheim would want, and Anaheim would be insane to move him for anything less than a massive over payment. The kid has franchise potential, but it's such a volatile position, and it would be a huge risk for another team to make that kind of investment in him at this point.

Yeah, you just shouldn't move goalie prospects like that unless your stable is absolutely ridiculous. I know I'd get pissed if Tampa moved Vasilevskiy.

You don't trade blue chip goaltenders until you at least see what you have with him in the big leagues.

you don't trade you top goalie prospects unless someone like Andrew Raycroft is coming the other way

it would take an overpay, Anaheim is in no position to trade him with Hiller and Fasth both becoming UFA's next year. Gibson may take over the net as early as next season

Lets not be too hasty.

Goalie prospects are a tough pick and a very risky pick. That said, if gibson has a very good season, his value is a top 10 pick.

As it stands right now, i think youd have to dangle something the ducks badly need. I.e. a top pairing, physical dman in his 20's locked up for a few years... then throw in sbisa and a pick to maybe balance.
