At this point in his career Ryan Smyth is more qualified to be the team doctor than a roster player, total embarrassment.

If I win the lottery this week, I wonder if I can donate his salaray to katz in exchange for him being PB'd for the remainder of the year.

Smyth was the worst player on the ice and a liability to the team. If he truly cares about the Oilers he will bow out now. He has made his money, move on.

Smyth is what he is, an ageing vet warrior. People who call him horrible should step on the ice and get introduced to the reality of he is way better at it then you ever well.

So cry me a river!
So your argument is that he deserves to play in the NHL because is better than dudes who write on a hockey forum. Allrighty than Dallastavishelliniowe

We should sticky this thread until Smyth gets bumped to the 4th line or retires. We were up 4-2 at one point and I was pissed anyway because I had to watch Smyth suck the life out of the 1st line. Hall wasn't the best either, have to say. Smyth though just needs to quit, he's only going to get worse. I love Eakins and everything he does but for the love of oilers get Smyth off the first line.

Wait, where are the Smyth backers tonight? They need to reiterate their crazy jargon stating that Smyth is a skill player.

You had your glory days Smitty, either beg to be dropped to the 4th line or hang them up.
Tonight Dubnyk definitely put in an entry as the most useless on the team.

I was praying for Smyth to keep up tonight but he just can't skate well enough to play on that line. Maybe we can still find somewhere that he can function in the bottom 6.

Joensuu to L1? Or convert Yak to get him some minutes....

Holy ****. I was willing to give Smyth the benefit of the doubt but that was an absolutely atrocious game. If he stays on that first line for much longer, god help us all

During the preseason people were asking me why I was so against Smyth on the top line even though he was producing. Because I knew tonight would happen. When the games count, against NHL players, Ryan Smyth no longer can cut it.

The longer he stays in the top 9 the longer the team will consistently lose. He drags down every line he's on. Ryan Jones is a better option than him, and I am not a Jones fan.

I loved Smyth back in the day, but he's a detriment to this team now.

I seriously don't understand everyone's infatuation with this guy.

When he was traded in 07 I was actually happy. Never liked Smyth. I respect what he's given for the Oil but honestly...retire dude.

All respect he's gotten since that time has all been based on "heart'n soul player" nostalgia for bygone days that no longer exist (I wish they did).

I only half watched the game but those two giveaways by Hall were what sunk the team in the end.

Which is what typically happens when you have a player playing out of position.

4th line fine, keep him around for the rest of the year, teach the kids where to sit on the plane, how to pick out ties, etc... But 1st line? I don't get it.

maybe we can request a push start at the beginning of each shift for Ryan due to his age to get him going.

If he truly loves this team, and wants it to be successful, the best thing he can do to help that become a reality is retire. Problem is, he's not the sharpest tool in the shed, and he probably think he still 'has it.' Ryan, you do not 'have it' anymore. Please, for the love of God, retire!

Uh, guys, he's second on the team in scoring and in the top 40 in the NHL. You can't give up on that kind of scoring prowess.

The shift leading up to his penalty was pure comedy.

Haha, that was a beaut. Three giveaways in five seconds before wrasslin a guy to the ice. It has to be over for Smytty now. Retire while you can still look people in the eye and be proud. He has no business being on an NHL roster.
