who is the first coach fired
what kind of odds does Lavi get

EDIT: Im not feeling a quick hook for Lavi if things dont start out well. I think chemistry could be an issue with this team early on so i think early on if there are struggles then Snider will give him the benefit of the doubt. But if this team is sucking wind around the holidays? all bets may be off on who is left with a job

My call is that he's gone by Thanksgiving. If he stumbles badly out of the gate as other predict, he may be done at ten games or so. The division is loaded this year. A bad stretch of play could knock the Flyers out of PO contention. There may not be the ability to rally back from a bad start.
BTW, it looks like the sharks smell blood in the water:

That's not the type of article that you want to see in the press on opening night.

The press is obviously fueling the issue but it's not without merit.....it really is amazing how management decided to make a stupid political decision in order to save face and circle the wagons around Lavi despite the fact the dude is unable to prepare and motivate his players properly as the preseason showed. I mean you already have Holmgren calling out a couple of players for not showing enough urgency..gotta wonder who they were.

According to Bovada, Lavi is the favorite to be the first coach fired at 2/1 odds.

I've seen those odds as well, doesn't give us hope for the Flyers season does it?

Friday, November 8.

This is the day after the Flyers' second game vs the Devils. A second loss against them since their inability to adapt to the Devils has become a microcosm of Laviolette's limitations and I expect the axe to fall.

Or am I overanalyzing?

its painfully obvious when we play a few teams (jets, tampa, devils, etc.) that know lavi so well that they just completely dominate us. lavi doesn't know how to adjust, he's just a "stick to your game" kind of guy and in the wrong situations it 100% ****s us

Seems likely to me, too. Unless they start out really badly and he's canned after the Pittsburgh game on October 17th and they give a new coach that whole next week to get up to speed.

If you notice..Lavi really stresses special teams play as his trump card for his 5 on 5 deficiencies which includes constant line juggling as well as favoring some players over others with ice time. Last year they also got a crazy amount of bench penalties which was basically bad bench management on Lavis part and lack of discipline.

I remember last year teams (even Pitt adjusted) just made sure they were disciplined and cut down on their penalties and then clogged up the neutral zone or forechecked our D men hard and we were cooked. We upgraded the personnel a bit but not sure it will be enough especially with Gus and Streit still not up to speed so to speak.

BTW...one of Lecavalier's arguments about Boucher in Tampa was how he would switch up his linemates too much...I hope he realizes Lavi has the same malady when things are not going right...

Not at all, Lavi can't seem to adjust to the Devils game, good thing is the Flyers only play them 3 times this year. The Flyers have issues with TB as well and with Detroit in their conference this year is going to be tough.

3rd Period against Toronto has totally exposed Lavi's archaic system.....all it took was 1 game into the new season. Glad the Flyers spent so much time practicing the PP (Lavi's one trick pony trump card) instead of practicing how to play even strength and finish...not to mention figure out how to not make turnovers in the neutral zone due to the other team clogging it up once they take a lead...

Once again, what we normally do stops working and nothing is ever done to change our tactics so that for the rest of the game we make nothing happen.

Should've been fired in the offseason.

So so frustrating. How is he still here? If we had a real coach here from the get go this team could be a winner. Instead talent will win most games and we will barely miss the playoffs or just make it.

The sooner he is gone the better. It will take a while to adjust to the new system, so we better do it quick.

All it takes is playing against a team/coach that adjusts, they clog up the neutral zone or put a lot of pressure on the puck carrier and our entire system falls apart.

The team still doesn't know how to play 60 minutes of hockey.

That is on the coach..he has to motivate and prepare them. I really think that the system is very taxing to sustain for a whole game in the first place (not impossible but taxing)...

Over a full season...is even worse.

I'd settle for 40 minutes of intense, sound hockey.

One thing that's curious to me: when the Flyers took the penalty with about a minute left, at one point they gained possession and Giroux (?) hammered it down the ice from his own zone. What the crap? Nobody was even close to trying to move into the offensive zone, and they didn't touch the puck again, except to fish it out of the net behind Mason.
