Yup, Tallon was bad.

Terrible drafter, bad at signing FA's, but good at making trades.

I wouldn't trade what we have for a better GM, but the 2 years previous to the most recent Cup win could of been A LOT better had Tallon drafted, and managed the cap better.

So overpaying Buf and Sharp on their first RFA contracts, giving a Campbell $7+ mil and the great RFA debacle didn't happen during Tallon's tenure?

Tallon didn't understand the CBA and how a team holds the upper hand on the first RFA contract. He wanted to be loved by the players and didn't think long term.

I give Tallon 90% of the credit for building the 2010 team and about 50% of the credit for the players that remain on the roster today. He re-introduced a culture of winning and made it a team guys wanted to play for.
By many you mean very few? Kane was a slam dunk #1, there's always some difference's in opinion, but it really wasn't that close.

Has Vityaz cleaned up their act in the KHL? Because Beach and Vityaz were a match made in heaven they should have made this happen.

The consensus seems to be that Tallon don't know how to draft. Things are much better since he left with the same Mark Kelly as Director of Amateur Scouting that he hired still running the draft. Have I got that right??.

Look at yourself. In any case, kind of a weird assignment.

I believe you do. Kelley has been very effective with Bowman and Tallon should be credited for that hire. Kelley's hire and Niemi were Tallon's two best moves in my opinion. Overall I thought Tallon was pretty bad and probably wouldn't have had the job if he wasn't one of the good-ol'-boys, and while he missed on many of his hires, Kelley looks like a good one even though he probably helped persuade Tallon to pick Beach.

Such a shame how Beach worked out.

Speaking of Mark Kelley, he claimed to have known the Hawks were taking Kane as soon as he found out Chicago won the lottery, months before the draft.

I think we'll see lot's of Cody Beach in Chicago, wonder if he'll stick or end up in Europe too.

man this kid had so much potential. I remember wanting him on the habs. I wish I could say that this will be a good wake up call but I think he has had many wake up calls and slept right through them all.

It was a big five that year. Would any of the available five really been a bad pick?

Where'd I say that? Been said in several circles that it was the assistant GM that made the mistakes. And you're a fool if you think he didn't understand the CBA and he didn't think long term. He, an Campbell, have been great so far here.

Stan's to blame on the RFA thing? Been reading too many Hawk conspiracy threads. It was on Tallon. The Hawks under Tallon had a habit of doing their QOs last second. They got burned. Tallon takes the blame for that blunder.
