Loved seeing Don point out that, in order to combat players getting injured on close icing plays, the NHL introduced a new rule that eliminates all icing plays except the ones causing the problems.

It's like a city with too many drunk driving accidents banning driving while sober.

Bah, Scott didn't hurt Kessel, said he had no intention of hurting him...

Cherry has changed his tune a little since immediately following the incident:

http://blogs.montrealgazette.com/201...ht-in-toronto/

“Leafs won tonight but the big news tonight is the line brawl. Kessel was on against John Scott. They had been yapping at each other the (whole) game. Scott drops his gloves, which I am very surprised at, and goes after Kessel. Clarkson jumps on the ice from the bench, he’s gonna get suspended 10 games. Kessel gave Scott a 2 hander. He might get suspended too. But I have to ask, what was Kessel doing on the ice against Scott? Toronto has the last change. I never would have had Kessel on against Scott. That move is gonna cost one of my favourite players 10 games.”

Carlyle agreed (post-game) that he made a mistake right?

Everyone knew Scott wanted a fight after the "bully" Devane broke Tropp's jaw.

That's why Leaf coach Carlyle said he "was trying to defuse the situation".

That's why Sabres coach Rolston was fined for leaving Scott out there.

The big question to me is why does Cherry change his tune when he goes on CBC??

So I guess you didn't listen to what he said?

"I was going to let Scott off the hook, but then I see him laughing and joking about it the next day"

That's why he changed his tune.

Oh so Scott wasn't a "coward" and a "bully" until he laughed?

And why didn't Cherry criticize Carlyle on HNIC like he did on Twitter?

I'm telling ya, he's a different person when he gets in front of the camera.

Can you name another instance where he changed his tune? This is a really strange position to take, especially since all cherry has done the past ten years is blast the leafs coaching drafting roster and everything else you can name except for sundin tucker and zigomanis

Yeah but that was just on the cheek.

And Cherry is supposed to be a Bruin fan.

And Orr is supposed to be his favorite player.

What's up with all the kissing of random Leafs?

Is it his way of kissing up to Leaf fans when on TV?

His comments on the Kessel stick-swinging incident were different on Twitter no?

Has there been more than Kadri and Gilmour? And the Kadri one was only done as a joke about the Gilmour time. I guess I haven't seen these shady photos of him making out with all leaf team members in the bathrooms of the acc.

I'm not interested in who he makes out with off-camera.

I'm only interested in why he turns into a blind Leaf fan on camera.

Why didn't he rip Carlyle on camera like he did on twitter?

Why does he suddenly sum up the incident as "Scott is a bully and a coward"?

Will the real Don Cherry please stand up?

Personally I like the twitter Don Cherry better...

Look at who is likely the biggest target audiance for his schtick on HNIC - and I'll think you'll have your answer. Even out here in Vancouver, there's still alot of Leaffans (even before last season) - and has been for eons.

Um, did he not spend half this coaches corner talking about how the leafs organization needs a slap?

Says something bad about the leafs, nobody says anything. Says something good LEAF HOMER KILL HIM!

I still don't understand why people who dislike him watch him, listen to every interview and follow him on twitter. How can you waste so much energy complaining about something you never have to see or hear unless you go look for it?

Guess what he's doing is working, cbc is making their money off of your tears.

Maybe I'm writing a book called Hypocrites on Television.

I'm not complaining, I'm just trying to understand.

I actually like Don Cherry.

I liked him a lot more in the distant past though.

Back when he wasn't afraid to call a spade a spade.

That was what made him famous actually.

But that was then and this is now.

I'm just trying to understand what the heck happened to him.

Speaking of the Twitter version of Grapes, he went on a 2nd rant today about how Tallon could draft Barkov over Drouin.

I hope he's watching the Stars-Panthers game.

Edit: especially now that Barkov scored.

Anyone else think Cherry's gonna rip into Stevie Y for his anti-fighting comments tonight?

He's going to call Yzerman a hypocrite. Then mentioned how Kocur, Probert and McCarty protected him.

Got a point about the linesmen not dropping the puck and waving out a lot more, it's been going on for a year before he's mentioned it, but at least he finally noticed it.
