So what you're saying is that it's completely impossible that Bryzgalov wanted to play for a team in Vegas, or that he doesn't want to be in the spotlight at all? Or that it's impossible that since he's a headcase, teams didn't want him near their prospects?

Yep, what a conspiracy.

Why not KHL? I guess he doesn't like Russia...plus thanks to the Flyers he has 23M reasons to just take it easy and play hockey for fun.

That is a very reasonable reason. He is still a very good goalie.

All the NHL and AHL teams have their goalie situation set so Im guessing bryz is just going the ECHL route to get some games in while whatever else hes working on goes through. He has most likely had some talks with a few teams about being a mid season pickup when rosters get a bit more settled and is just doing this to bide his time. Hes already made his money so its not like hes hurting for cash.

There aren't many AHL teams out west. I believe he lives in Arizona, so Vegas makes since in that regard. He can stay relatively close to where his family lives while staying in shape and playing while trying to find an NHL job.

Don't get me wrong, the Flyers defense was pathetic last year, but people are clueless if they think that had everything to do with how bad he played last year. He didn't even perform at an ECHL level.

Surprised Pittsburgh didn't try to get him considering Vokoun is out for a while.

Hard to say if it's true or not-but if he did in fact end up signing in the ECHL-that would have to be some kind of dubious record of "NHL player in minor league with biggest NHL contract buyout" type of idea, would it not?

Heck, I could even see vancouver being interested. Lack is the current back up but he may not be ready yet. If he proves it, we'd need a good vet who can handle 25 games to take his place.

Behind an actual NHL defense that knows the difference between their ass from a whole in the ground, unlike in Philly, what happens if Bryzgalov outplays Luongo?

This is what I'm thinking. Bryz has the kind of off-beat personality where he might have just said "screw the establishment, I'm going to play in Vegas". And the kind of personality where I wouldn't be surprised if he is exhausted by all the pressure and attention of being in the NHL (kind of the same way Avery decided to retire and do his own thing).

Also...not sure how much one can ascertain from a 10 minute segment on 24/7, but Bryz at least appeared to be a big family man, so I'm sure his family's interests played a big role (shocker).

The last thing we need is another media frenzy involving goaltending. Not even remotely worth it, there are other routes.

For those asking why not the KHL?

It is because he is still hoping for an NHL contract this season. If he were to play in the KHL now, he would have to clear waivers to sign an NHL contract for this season (like Nabokov a few years ago.)

Surely this is a temporary conditioning stint before he signs somewhere else. It has to be.

As most have said, he should at the very least be an NHL backpu or a KHL starter, but ECHL? Something's up

Do NHL teams really not want this guy around their prospects in the AHL or what?

Yes, but how many of those guys are young guys being developed for the NHL? Most NHL teams do not need someone like Bryz. Then those that do, have to decide if his game is there, and if it is (or might be) whether he's worth the hassle.

edit, as for why echl/ahl vs khl? He can't play in the NHL this year if he goes to the KHL, but can if he goes to the ECHL/AHL.

I think it's higher nowadays; rookies get paid $400/week and returning players need to be paid at least $455/week. Plus, teams do cover travel, accommodation, equipment and food expenses.

Wrt Bryzgalov, staying fit/healthy is probably more of a priority and playing in a lower league with no media attention might make it easier. He already got paid, anyway.
