****... he's a good prospect and the Habs could've used him. Seems like exactly what Washington needed. Lou ****ed up.

Coaches like Harrold. Why? I don't know. But he's playing tonight.

Lou also did not want a one-way deal in the minors. Dunno if that's related to finances or not.

He shouldn't have been playing in that game. He was a 5th rounder just a season ago who pretty much blew up over the last year and in training camp, but he's definitely not NHL ready yet.

Not surprised he got claimed. Where were the Caps on waiver priority?

Didn't realize Urbom had this kind of reputation around here..

He quickly fell to 4th on our defensive prospect depth chart though. Merril, Gelinas, Severson all jumped him this year.

Good prospect that is close to NHL ready but not a huge loss given what we have defensively. Just sucks to lose for nothing.

Until November 1st, based on last year's final standings.

So they were 20th in waiver priority.

Mark my words. The Devils are going to regret this in 2-3 years.

Urbom would have been the perfect 7th defenseman. Younger then Harrold and would have done the same job. Livid right now.

At least 19 teams didn't put in a claim for Urbom.

People are making it like he's the next great defensemen and Lou made a humongous era when at least 18 other GMs didn't see the use in Urbom just like Lou.

**** you George McPhee

Lou dropped the ball with this one, Urbom is a better 7th d than Harrold, he's a solid shutdown d man without much offense.

Here's to hoping the Caps waive him and the Devils claim him!

Couldn't sneak him through. I'd prefer Urbom to Hunny Bunny, but I assume management doesn't want to bury a 1 way deal in the minors.

I was about to blame this on DeBoer for preferring Harrold, but then I realized Lou gave Harrold a two year one-way deal this summer.

I think the time to slip Urbom through waivers would have been 1st round of cuts, when other teams were still evaluating what they had.

So Harrold is the only 6/7 defensemen in the NHL?

Again.. 18 other teams have 6/7 defensemen. Sure, some of them are prospects/young guys.. but many of them are exactly Peter Harrold.

And 18 other teams didn't care enough to drop them and pick up Urbom.

He's a good prospect so it sucks to be lost for nothing but no need to act like its the end of the world and Lou has brought the apocalypse down onto us.

Or those 20 GM's either didn't have roster space, or figured that Urbom wasn't an upgrade on who they currently had on the roster. Surprising to me that a team like CGY or COL wouldn't have taken a shot with Urbom, but that's just IMO.

Teams typically don't end up regretting losing a 7th defenseman. If I see one more Penguins fan bemoan the loss of Brian Strait, a guy who would now be about 9th on the Penguins depth chart and never given a chance because of his low upside (and got straight-up abused by the Penguins in the playoffs) I'm going to scream...very similar situation here...but it still doesn't make sense to expose him to waivers and keep Harrold, who really is nothing more than a pedestrian #7 with no upside.

The bigger issue was giving Harrold a two-year one-way deal, though.

That's a bit disingenuous reasoning. Of course most teams will pass on a player once the season started. They are set when it comes to players/contracts and can't afford to audition a 6th/7th d-man.

Urbom got claimed and at least 9/10 players on waivers aren't. This doesn't mean Urbom is worth a lot. But there is enough there for another NHL team to give him a shot.
