The Red wings won't move a young D-man with some upside for another forward, they already have too many fwds.

The problem I see here is that the ducks look pretty close to the cap and any top 4 D-man is going to come with a sizeable cap hit.

I mentioned Nick Schultz earlier, what about Nick Schultz for Smith-Pelly + 14' 2nd round pick.

And physical top 4 Ds are not just laying around waiting to sign contracts or get traded days into the season. What people want and what they end up getting are not the same thing. Never mind how did the beauch trade work out for you guys?

Quite well, actually. You may have noticed Beauchemin was 4th in Norris voting last season.

Exactly and I would not put it past JML doing well there too with a fresh start. And no matter how people spin it he is a top 4 d.

That was my thought as well.

Maybe they want a guy that's young but has a couple of seasons under his belt?

Who knows.

The problem is his contract. If it really came down to that, I think the Ducks would just prefer to see what Lindholm can do. If he isn't ready we can send him down to the AHL, with no concerns about not being able to call him back up.

Sbisa shouldn't be out for too long, and I think it's important to keep a spot open for Souray when he's ready. Unless JML really impressed, we'd probably just see him sent through waivers again, and I don't think the Ducks would want to eat his contract.

If we're looking for a young defenseman it means one of ours is going the other way as well. That's food for thought. Sbisa and Souray will most likely have spots in the lineup when they return from injury so it only makes sense.

The coaching staff knew exactly what they were getting with Beauchemin. Not so much JML. This isn't a cap dump for cap dump situation like Blake/Giguere, his contract is a problem, or SOMEONE would have just claimed him.

Anaheim is looking for a young defensemen, not a prospect or fringe nhler. We have plenty of those to go around.

Any interest in Gustafsson (24) or Meszaros (27)? In the latter case Philly could keep some of the salary/cap hit.

NHL teams are just lining up to trade away young NHL ready defenseman, especially 1 game into the season.

I suspect even if they found a team who has a guy like that they might be willing to trade the asking price would be much more then what the ducks would be willing to part with.

Wait, did everyone miss the part where it was LeBrun speculating that we want a young defenseman, and that it wasn't what we are being reported to be looking for. I realize the title of the thread is misleading, so no blame is going around. I suspect that LeBrun just looked at the age of some of the guys on the roster, and assumed we needed someone young.

Columbus is carrying 8 d right now. Any interest in either Erixon or Savard? Also, not sure if he is available(I don't think he is. Some fans said they should shop him around though) but what about Nikitin? Nikitin is a up coming UFA though.

Columbus needs more scoring forwards.
