Hendricks and Gaustad. That would be my vote personally.

If I were to grade the players this is how I would list them.

Fisher=A
Legwand=B+
Wilson=C+
Smith=B
Hornqvist=B-
Bourque=C+
Cullen=B+
Clune=C+
Nystrom=B
Spaling=B
Gaustad=F
Hendricks=D

Weber=B
Josi=B-
Bartley=D+
Klein=D+
Ekholm=B-
Jones=C+

Rinne=F
Hutton=A

I gave Rinne an F but I chalk it up to rust. That and the D didn't really help him all that much but the Peks we know and love would have made 2 of those 3 saves imo.

The two main negitives that stood out to me:

-As mentioned, special teams. Just bad all night. Couldn't get set up or comfortable. On our heels on the PK and chasing dumped pucks on the PP all night.

-The first 10 mins. It's like we thought we were going to play an ECHL team and the speed caught us napping.

My 2 cents.

-First and foremost the power play was awful.

-The Preds should have scored several times. Again Preds fail to bury several chances. 1 Example: Borkie wide open in slot with time. Sets it up and misses wide right. It was wide open to see replay.

- The new guys Nystrom, Hutton, and Cullen looked solid. I didn't know Hendricks was playing.

-Best offense zone time i have seen from the Preds in a long time.

-Peka looked like he never saw a single puck. Also appears players have picked up on how to beat him. Wait him out and he drops like a tree.

-Would like to see Ekholm be more physical.

-Bartley and Klein worst pairing on D.

-Fisher line the best on O

LOL Jones a C+?? He was one of the best players out there last night. He was a +2 and played over 18 minutes.

Good grief...C+. Guess someone didn't watch the game.

I agree. He is also the only one wjo looked like he attempted to make something happen on the PP.

That's why I put him squarely in the "bad" category from last night.

The good
Jones
Ekholm
Fisher
Cullen
Smith
Hornqvist
Spaling
Clune

The bad
Legwand
Weber
Josi
Pekka
Hendricks
Goose
Nystrom

The ugly
Hendricks
Hutton (did alright, but rebound control wasn't pretty)
Klein
Bartley
Wilson (where are you dude?)
Borque (where are you dude?)

We have a lot to work on over the next few weeks. God help them. I don't think anything gets easier tonight against a juiced up colorado team.

He had his strong moments but he also had some plays where he either got outplayed or was not in the best position. For his first game in the NHL he played well. What I liked most was he got stronger as the game went on aside from the bad turnover behind the net late in the game. Loved him on the PP for sure. His PK needs work but that goes for the whole team.

I watched every second of the game and spent time rewinding and rewatching many plays to see where the breakdown was. I think the C+ is a fair grade.

I didn't get to watch any of the pre-season, so this was my first look at Jones, and he impressed me mightily. His skating blew me away. He pinches very low sometimes, but typically he is fast and agile enough to get back. I like him on a pairing with Klein, who is much more responsible defensively, but I think he can be special.

Of course, I'd rather have Mackinnon, but still, Jones can be a great player.

Ahh not sure what size screen you are watching your rewinds on. Another example is Goose an F while Hendricks with a D. Hendricks was invisible. Goose was not and played a decent game. He did loose some faceoffs but F nah

Totally agree with this.

Funny though, there was more chemistry offensively last night than we've had in a long time. As this team plays together more, it should get better.

I am really regretting signing Hendricks over Morrow. Very impressive play from him last night.

Was extremely impressed with Jones. Made the game worth watching, IMO.

of the new guys, only Nystrom stood out to me. I thought Cullen was useless.

Pierre McGuire said that there's some scuttlebut that the pad decrease will hurt big goalies the most, and cited "exhibit A" in Pekka Rinne last night. I don't know if it was the pads, but he looked extremely slow and uncomfortable.

I thought Josi, Bartley, and Klein all looked a little rough last night. Those last two in particular.

Agree that Wilson and Bourque were pretty invisible throughout the night.

Will hold off judgment of the offense until Forsberg and Stalberg are back in the lineup.

Won't say much about special teams beyond...yikes.

I probably was a little harsh on Goose with the F. He probably should get a D+. The sad thing is when that line was on the ice the only players I noticed doing much of anything was Clune. Kinda sad considering he makes 800K compared to 1.8 and 3.25 the other two make.

I wouldn't give Gaustad an F either, but when you play the 4th most minutes of all forwards you need to bring more to the table than just face offs. Especially when you are playing the whole game down 2-3 goals.

1. Goose won 12 of 18 face offs. That alone gives him MORE than a passing grade

2. This year, Clune makes 537k

But Goose did loose one cleanly that directly led to a goal.

Could not disagree more on Cullen; mediocre first followed by great 2nd and 3rd. Biggest downer was mediocre faceoff performance, but Cullen and Smith had some really great plays together after the first.

I agree. Cullen looked good to me. He had two really nice puck handling plays that lead to shots on goal. We don't see that often in Nashville sadly.

I also see a lot of people seemingly down on Wilson. I think his lack of TOI has to do with working him back while building his strength in his shoulder still. I thought he played well and handled the puck along the boards nicely last night. Hopefully he is 100% soon and can show more of what he did last season.

So did Fisher who managed to win only 36% of his draws on the night. It sucks that Goose lost one cleanly that led to a goal but even he can't win every draw.

Smaller pads will only really affect his butterfly as he lost 4" of pad length total it won't affect his movement negatively. If anything it will help his movement as the pads will be shorter and lighter.

You know what, I totally forgot he's just now coming back from surgery. I'll ease up on him for a few more weeks.

Agreed. The shorter pads will really only affect 5-hole goals.
