I hope Lindholm is in for Fistric on D, and he gets paired with Beauch.
Penner will likely be in.

It seems like something they both agreed on before Selanne signed.

It will be Selanne's choice as to which game he wants to play on those back-to-back sets and there is plenty of motivation for him to play Sunday. The Ducks will play at Winnipeg, which will mark the final time he plays in the city he started his legendary career.
“The way I now look back at last year, I was a little bit stubborn about taking days off and nights off,” Selanne said. “I try to be smarter this season. I know it's a long season again. Even last year was so tough but it was hard to take days off.
“We decided right away. It doesn't matter what happens.”

Why? Fistric was one of the only D (Allen being the other) to not finish at a -1 or worse, and provides physicality. He wasn't the problem the other night.

I think it's very possible that Allen (age) or Lovejoy (play) get Winnipeg off as Lindholm potentially makes his debut. Just seems fitting after 2 games of watching and having a back to back. I would expect Fistric to play both games as he was decent physically, and we'll need that against a youthful Jets team

I don't what about Lovejoy's (play) would cause him to be sat. Allen played pretty well, too, and he's not old.

If you want to sit someone out for their play, it'd be Beauch or Fowler. I'd like Hampus to play but the only defensemen playing reasonably well right now are the bottom 4. I'd hate to take one of them out, put in a rookie, and be that much worse the next game if Beauch and Fowler don't pick it up.

This. There's way too much "take out the bottom 4 player, they're the unskilled ones" so people can see the shiny new toy mentality going on here, and not enough actual evaluation of the actual pairings' skills and needs.

It may have been mentioned before, but I didn't look at the faceoff stats for the Avs game until now, and I noticed Perreault won 13 out of 16 faceoffs (81.2%).

Didn't he take a lot of draws against MacKinnon? He was impressive on the dot either way.

As of now Lovejoy is:
  • 3rd on the team in icetime (20:27)
  • tied for 1st on the team in +/- (+1)
  • tied for 1st on the team in shots on goal (4)
  • tied for 1st on the team in hits (2)

If he sits tonight I'll ask myself if BB even watched the Avs game.

While a sample size for those stats of 1 game is beyond erroneous, I agree that he shouldn't be sat.

A LOT of things are screaming fistric right now.

Souray and Allen made a lot of pretty bad plays in the beginning of last season, it takes some games for a defenseman to get used to a new system.

I agree that Reverend Lovejoy shouldn't sit, but I really don't think the stats are at all meaningful after just one game.

I'd love to see Lindholm play, but I'm just not sure any of the bottom 4 defensemen deserve to sit, and sitting our best two defensemen after one game just doesn't make sense. Fresh legs tomorrow might be a better idea.

Since it seems unanimous that none of the 6 D from the last game deserve to sit, I'll predict that one of them will and BB will dress Magnus.

Not saying he will keep that pace in those categories, just pointing out he did some good things quietly. Other than the scrum and hit attempt on MacKinnon, he played through the game pretty unnoticed, which was probably a good thing in a 1-6 loss.

I'd like to see Penner play tonight. Preferably with the top line. However, with an extremely short leash.

I expect Magnus to be in either tonight or tomorrow.

Fowler was on ice for 4 goals against if you include the PK. Same with Beauch I believe. Fasth was ok, but not as good as he could be. The other guys were average on defense.

First goal was on a turnover from Beauch. Let's face it, he's not gonna sit.

Second goal was on the PP, and everyone played soft in front of the net. Beauchemin or Silfverberg should have had Downie tied up. Fowler was the other defenseman on the ice, and he's not gonna sit either.

Third goal... Again Fowler and Beauchemin on the ice, but the forwards were to blame. Fowler skated up with the puck, but no forward took his place on D.

Fourth goal... You guessed it, Fowler and Beauch on the ice four the 4th straight goal. But McGinn was Koivu's or Winnik's man to take. Too many guys staring at the puck.

Fifth goal... Fistric does what he's supposed to. Beauch is the other D-man on the ice. Forwards doesn't pick up McGinn again.

Sixth goal, on the powerplay. Allen goes to the left side, with Lovejoy already being there. So I guess that's on him.

Summarize: Team defence was awful. Forwards didn't backcheck properly and the whole team were staring at the puck and completely forgot the players surrounding them on almost every goal. Fistric's lack of footspeed was exposed a couple of times, with Duchene skating around him one time and later taking a penalty chasing after MacKinnon. But if we insert Lindholm in his place the D will be incredibly soft.

What?

Fowler and Beauchemin sucked last game. Fistric wasn't very good either. Lovejoy, Allen, and Vatanen all had good games.

All purpose Selanne back to back thread.

Basically this thread is about which back to back games Selanne will be playing in, as there's lots of ducks fans, or just Selanne fans outside of So. Cal, but still in nhl cities, who are going to want to see him play one final time, myself included!

It's pretty well known Selanne will be sitting out one game in back to backs, but we don't know which ones yet, or if it will stick 100% the rest of the season. Is BB likely to keep tight lipped about when he reveals which back to back game will get Selanne/ do y'all think BB will surprising the other team by playing Selanne in a back to back?

I've got tickets to see the ducks on November 23rd in Phoenix, and will be visiting my parents for about 4 weeks in Phoenix... I'm definitely leaving Phienix before the ducks come back in January, so that's out of the question.

Basically, am I going to have to try and see another Ducks game to try and see Teemu for the final time?!?

Or is there a chance he will sit the Nov 22 game in Anaheim against the Bolts, and he'll travel with the team to Phoenix?

I really hope he surprises us all and plays upwards of 75 games if he's healthy, I just really want to see Selanne live one more time, and I'm sure I'm not the only one (as so many of us Ducks fans don't live in Anaheim)

Anyways, here's hoping we all get to see Teemu one more time, if we can't make it to Anaheim!

Why don't we just use the lineup discussion thread, that's what it's there for....?

No-one will know which games he will sit anyway, so it's all just guesswork.

Because this is only about what games Selannes sits/ plays, not the other players.

I was being sarcastic. All 6 options thrown around for benching for Lindholm is apparently a bad idea.
