This is easily the best goaltending we've had since Belfour, whether a tandem or one guy, overall. The Leafs could easily be 1-2, 0-3, it looks eerily similar to the Quinn era. Good goaltending breeds confidence, but your advanced stats away.

while i agree, i also agree that the goalie that put us into the playoffs and keeping us in game 7 should be given a longer leash after having an inconsistent night.

Too early to say. As of today I support the Megajon/Optimus Reim tandem.

I'm hoping he becomes the next Felix Potvin. Still like Reimer on the team, he seems like a great teammate. But very excited to have Bernier.

Lol @ TeamBernier and TeamReimer...I'm TeamLeafs ...If both play well I'm a happy camper...if one takes the ball and runs with it I'm still a happy camper. We're lucky to have two quality young goalies... Now if we can develop a good 7 man defence corps we're in business...we have offensive talent now and coming at this position, We need to come up with (trade and/or develop) three tough, physical mobile defence men and two two way defencemen to go with Gardiner, Reilly, we're on the way...Easier said than done in today's cap world but that would be the goal in my mind.

He makes it look easy. Tracks the puck extremely well in traffic, super stingy with rebounds, handles the puck like a dream under pressure, doesnt scramble around in his net, great glove, so much confidence.

He is everything Reimer is not.

And at no point watching Bernier play have I ever thought to myself "Man, I really wish this guy was taller."

In theory you can argue the 1 goal he's let in so far, against Philly. But it was a beauty shot too and set up nicely by Vinny. (and the play came from behind the net, and then the shorter pivot and dish to B. Schenn).

i think that's how it's going to shake down (still) but I had believed that Tuesday was going to be a Bernier start anyway - and then with how our schedule breaks down, each guy was probably going to get the next 3 starts, and in November start going with a 5/3 format or something like that.

with the goalie who had the best save% getting the first crack at it - so it would assume to me that guys will be Bernier first. (As I would have given it to James had he managed to hang on for the win - to give him more time to settle down in nets).

Bernier is Belfour, albeit socialised and smiling and much much younger. His puck management is so much more reliable than Reimer's who just doesn't seem to improve in that direction.

Ladies & Gentlemen...Jonathan Bernier! If Bernier keeps this up he will be getting an invite for Sochi 2014.

Bernier always looks so calm out there his rebound control is also top notch. If you think Reimer's going to take the back seat now, this games going to push him even harder. Way to go Bernier!

I'm certainly not counting Reimer out yet. Nice situation for the Leafs to be in actually.

More important than all 3 is Bernier follows the puck a lot better.

I believe in this guy, preseason was just bizarre, but he is showing up when it counts. It is like a time warp watching Potvin all over again and it feels good man....

Not sure if I'd anoint him the next great goalie yet, but it's clear from what we've seen that this guy does have a remarkable talent and skillset. He could be the guy for the Leafs for a very long time.

3 games in is too early to say who's going to be the #1 goalie for the Leafs, but if Bernier keeps up his play I'll be really happy. He has the type of game I'd be happy to see in net for us. Pretty good puck tracking, puck handling and a good glove.

Gotta ride Bernier now.

Reims fought the puck tonight for sure but he almost always responds, he has to make sure he does the same next game. Bernier was outstanding he is star of the week in my opinion. Tighten up those giveaways and you never know the Leafs may have something here.

Senators have a 4-2 lead and Leafs win, 3 in a row haters, I'm lovin this.

I've been a fan of Bernier since before he came to Toronto. He's so polished and elite in his game. The only legitimate knock on him is his experience which is pretty ridiculous considering the situation he was in and his age. I've been laughing at everyone who doesn't have faith in the guy or didn't like the trade from the moment he got here. His skillset is incredible and his mannerisms and mentality match that. He's just a beacon of confidence for the defence out there. Reimer is a good goalie but he isn't an elite one. Everything is there in Bernier to become that and he is determined to make that potential a reality.

I think he will be better than Potvin. Potvin was quick but also was a benefactor of some stingy defensive teams under Burns. He looks freaking amazing right now.

I've always been a believer. The day he got traded I said "that's our #1". I like Reimer, and i'd even re-sign him as a back up if he wanted but he is overrated over here. He's a starter on a crappy team and a back up on a good team.

Bernier is the real deal. I laughed when people were saying we shouldn't of gave up Matt Frattin and Ben *** Scrivens.

Bernier stole one outright and shut the door last night for more than half the game, both behind sloppy defense.

Until he has a performance like Reimer's last night there's no reason not to give him the starting job. Reimer can wait to get his confidence back against an offensively challenged team.

Frattin could turn into a nice player but that LA situation is a dream come true for whatever GM can make the trade happen. If you can trade a good young player and your backup for a goalie with even an outside chance at being an NHL #1 you don't even hesitate.

NJ was the recipient of a similar situation but arguably even more in their favour.
