how many players from his class are playing juniors? Ceci? Pouliot, Koekkoek, who else? Nothing he does in juniors will impress me whatsoever.
Playing juniors for two years after being drafted isn't exactly out of the ordinary. Much higher rated players on teams with much less forward depth like Scheifele and Strome both played two years of juniors after being drafted.
That is kind of my point. IN the minors he can only regress. EVen if he leads the ohl in points he is just doing what he is suppose to be doing .
As for the regressing, if he were the Generals' go to offensive guy for the last two years, I'd agree with you. However, this is his first year of actually being the top offensive threat with them. He'll likely tear it up all year, play a key role for Canada's WJC team, then probably get traded to a contender and go deep in the playoffs, which is something he hasn't done yet in his OHL career. I don't see him regressing or stagnating at the junior level yet.
What do you guys want? He did nothing to standout in his NHL trial. Yeah, he could maybe hold his own on a 4th line. He's 19. Let him play and develop his game. He's not going to do that playing 7 minutes a night. And it's not like he dominated the OHL the last three years either. He had a nice stretch last year. Let's see if he can do it wire to wire with the target on his back. His game will not stagnate in Jrs. Ryan Strome and Mark Scheifele both had a lot less to prove than Laughton when they were sent down the last 2 years. And their teams certainly had a much bigger need for their services than the Flyers do for Laughton. The CHL Player of the Year last year, who averaged 2 PPG is back in Junior too. If Laughton were here the Flyers would still be 0-3.

Maatta and Carrrick are in the NHL now.

This is why I like sending Laughton down. Let him keep deleloping the offensive side of his game and get more confidence. How knows, maybe he exceeds his perceived upside. The NHL is littered with 2nd-5th rounders that are now 1st liners. Why is it so absurd that Philly can't have a late 1st rounder become a 1st liner. I seem to think it has happened before for them...
another important aspect that is being left out is, he doesnt look to be in shape to be an NHL player, give him this year and I'm sure he'll bulk up more for the rigors of the NHL. helping him to transition his game better
Will be cool to watch Laughton in the WJCs, should be a good experience for him. Hopefully Stolarz too. Also Hagg should be there.
Unless Hagg is injured he is there, at a home WJC as well for him and Sweden... he was a pretty important player on one of the better Swedish teams of the last ten years last year after scraping onto the team, and got more playing time for them every game. By reckoning he was arguably one of Swedens best players in the final.
I would imagine there is a decent possibility he will have an 'A' on his shirt as well, with an outside shot at the 'C'... him and de la Rose are the only returners who have ever captained a team.
Forsberg, and Lindholm are not going to be back, so I imagine de la Rose is going to be captain, and most likely Hagg and Collberg with the A's... as they were in the u-18s, and Sweden like naming the same guys captains through age groups, though Wennberg could take one instead.
