Also, after Lavi was fired by the Canes an underachieving team turned it around and got to the conference finals. Similar to Chicago as well.

I think with Chicago that was a proactive move. You never see coaching changes that quickly. They had just won a game when Savard was fired.

Part of it is deciding who the new coach would be. Stevens was coaching games unaware that Holmgren was courting his replacement.

Those crying about Guy Boucher, we're not bringing in a 1-3-1 guy. That's not how the Flyers do things as an organization.

Those anticipating Craig Berube, expect nothing to change.

I'd probably give Maurice a shot here. Supposedly he's a hardass, but it's what we need right now.

Habs fan here, after seeing today's game, there wasn't much of a game plan. the problem is defense and goaltending. kinda like duck tape holding your car together. Fire Laviolette but its' the team chemistry. That's my opinion.

Sound familiar? Replace Stanley cup with 'finals' and Homer could copy and paste that for his announcement.

Everyone here knows he will not change it in Philly either.

He has been a good coach for us... but the bell tolls.
that post is like staring out into a black hole, knowing your about to fall into it...YIKES

Can we get a coach who plays a patient, disciplined game and creates offense from turnovers? We seem to at against teams like that a lot, and I'm sick of us leading the league in penalties.

Maurice isn't very good either. He's made the playoffs 4 times in essentially 12 seasons. And kept being hired by GMs whose intelligence level lacks way behind Holmgren.

How is the problem goaltending when they can't score more than 1 freakin goal?

Try and pinch Houda from the Bruins?

Willie Desjardins? Surprised no one gave him a call this summer. He has won everywhere he has been, is apparently a great tactical mind and a good motivator to boot. He also has a history of developing youth.

Or go completely of the board!

I'm confused you think goaltending & defense is or isn't the problem?

If you think it is you couldn't be anymore wrong. It's hard to win games when you can't put the puck in the back of the net.

replaving Lavy with Berube changes nothing. If they are going to fire Lavy then the whole staff has to be replaced. But will Snider actually fire a former Flyer player?
I still believe that Holmgren should be given his pink slip if they do decide to blow it up. But I doubt that happens.

goaltending is the least of our issues right now.

This team is going nowhere under Laviolette. The sooner he gets the proverbial door, the greater the chance of salvaging this season. It's time for a regime change.

Riley Cote could do a better job with this team that Lavi has done thus far this year...

I truly hope Holmgren had a backup plan in case this happened and is on the phone this very moment crossing the T's and dotting the I's on a new coach.

The team truly resembles a team who has never played together, under a young rookie coach. Something like the Johnny Mac experiment in New Jersey. There's zero identity, zero drive or will to win. This is the end of the road for Lavy. Any GM with an ounce of foresight is on the phone right now looking to see who's available.

Identity, is something you should not struggle to find in Philly. Historically there is a rich history to live up to. With the exception of Rinaldo this team isn't even hitting the same. Simmonds is letting up on checks he would have taken last year. It's total ghosts at times.

Coaches like him have a shelf life.

If this team continues to struggle, I think he'll be canned pretty early in the season.

hartnell-giroux-vinny
read-schenn-voracek
talbot-couts-simmonds

i think that might be lavi's best bet at keeping his job intact. vinny and read have been good. giroux needs someone more cerebral to play with and i think vinny best fits the bill of the rest of the forwards and hoped to play there. read isn't his best at lw but could spark the play of jake who could largely anchor a 2nd unit from the wing. schenn slides back into his natural position. i think this line is solid combination in all 3 zones. not sure how talbot-couts-simmonds make out but theres other options to looks at like moving simmonds to the lw with schenn-jake.

scouring for things to say right now. its a hideous beast.

I hope so but I doubt it, I think in the end Murray will likely be the coach in a few weeks. I'm kind of lukewarm on Murray but I think he could get us playing some better defense & possibly squeeze us into the playoffs.
