1) I'm thankful for the first few years of Lavi. Was a good time.

2) This took too damned long. Homer did better by not waiting until later this time, but it still should've been done in the offseason.

3) Berube has like 2 weeks of head coaching experience, 7 years ago on the Phantoms. On top of that, as far as I'm concerned, he is part of the problem. If he had a solution for some of the elementary issues this team has had, either he didn't share it with Lavi or Lavi was too stubborn to listen. Or, more worryingly, he had no solution.

4) It's interesting to me that Murray wasn't named, since he has a lot more experience and he wasn't part of the problem. Perhaps Berube is on an interim basis. If he's not, I have zero faith in the team going anywhere and there's a solid chance Holmgren isn't long for his tenure.

Maybe Berube will prove himself well. Or, maybe he'll be a new Pierre McGuire. The lack of HC experience is really troubling.

I like the idea of Lappy behind the bench with Giroux, Couturier, Lecavalier, and Talbot on the team. Oh, and Morin.

Funny how that makes one francophone per line, though.

The only change he didn't make was firing Lavy. He has assembled a team with enough talent to win. IMO, the coach is the one to blame here.

If things don't change, then you fire Homer.

Berube is also a mean *******, I doubt he'll take any **** from guys who don't want to play hard etc. Whatever "system" they play from now on you know regardless people should be hustling, which was my biggest complaint. Team had no fight/passion/desire to win in the final stages of Lavi's stay here.

I see this as yet another failure by Homer. If they're willing to fire him 3 games into the season that says to me they had to already be thinking about it after last season. If you're that on the fence about keeping a coach or not then you fire the coach so you have the off season to properly search for a new coach and they have a training camp to implement their system rather than trying to do it in season.

Can't help but laugh.

But really, I wonder if he really do things differently or put his foot down to make sure the players work their ***** off and do the right things.

With Paddock (X's and O's) and Lappy (players developmental coach) and Berube (hard ass and supposedly X's and O's b/c of PK) maybe it will be a good complementary mix..gotta hope so. Just so glad that idiot savant rainman Lavi is gone....

mmm gotta attack...yes attack mmm

A three-year extension to an existing contract was signed in early 2011, when that contract was nearing expiration.

There is some confusion about berube coaching experience. According to hockeydb and elite prospects he coached the entire 2007-2008 phantoms season. http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=370
Bill meltzer also only referred to his 6 game stint in 2006-2007

that's not true. He was the head coach during the entire 07-08 season for the Phantoms. He was brought in as the assistant coach for the Flyers early on in the 06-07, but returned as the Phantoms head coach for the following season where they lost in the 2nd round of the playoffs

He was named a Flyers' assistant early in the 2006-07 season -- after Hitchock was replaced. He then returned to the Phantoms as head coach in the summer of 2007 and he held that role for 2007-08.

The best player on that team was Downie and he got that kind of record out of the team.

Wow. Kinda surprised they did it as soon as they did. Needed to be done though. Don't know about Berube but we'll just have to see.

John Paddock was the one who coached the Phantoms a few years ago & got **** because they sucked despite there being zero talent on the roster, correct?

Paddock is junk, but he's like a team lackey, so he sticks around.

Berube was interested in the Capitals head coaching position when that was last available.
