Kudos to Nonis and Carlyle again!

The deals they've made this year must be the envy of every team:

Bolland
Bernier
Raymond
(Clarkson)

All talented players giving it 101%.

It being a public message board does not preclude your responsibility to be respectful. That mentality on the internet is what is going to eventually destroy anonymous usage.

If we are going to keep Dion, I would look to grab a young NHL ready 2 way D-man to pair with Reilly, so that when we are ready to contend (2-3 years), Dion can slot into more of an offensive role on the second pairing. This way, I would offer Dion a 2 year contract at 7 million. By the time his contract is up, Reilly and XXXX can take over as the top pairing, with Dion and Franson taking the second pairing role with Dion getting less money to do so (5M). Give Clarkson the C, and play Dion in a more suited role.

It would look like this:

Rielly - XXXX
Phaneuf (5M) - Franson (4.5M)

For XXXX, I would target a guy like Duncan Siemens, Adam Larsson, Griffin Reinhart or Nikita Zadorov.

I think a package of Gardiner + Kulemin would land us one of these guys. My personal preference would be Zadorov, but sending Gardiner to Buffalo might bite us in the ass down the road. Not sure why we didn't trade up to grab Zadorov considering he went 16th, but I'm not in charge. The dude would be the perfect #2 guy beside Rielly. So would Reinhart. Larsson would be a dream, but likely not going to happen. Siemens would be the easiest to get, but doesn't have the upside of the others.

Edit. Looking at this, I think Reinhart is the man to target.

Gardiner + Kulemin

for

Reinhart

You mean the Frattin that is on a 82 point pace right now?

If it comes down to Dion or Gardiner , long term I think I go Gardiner

Try and get a more stay at home RHD to compliment Gardiner/Rielly in the top four

but without an extension i'm not sure what Dion's value would be

Nash with Jones now has Weber, Klein, Jones, and maybe Ellis down the Right

A guy like Klein, while not a stay at home would be a solid mobile 2way RHD
Klein and Watson type move

Phx, Michalek + Domi

WPG similar to Nsh has depth down the right, doubt they'd move Bogo, Byuf or Trouba for Dion but he'd be a nice fit there

Don't forget to mention Scrivens and his 1.00 SV% through 1 games.

Thank god we have 5 players scoring at a PPG or better. Raymond is on pace to score 54. Sweet. I'm sure he can hold out.

I think by the end of the year, we will be comfortable with the trade. I am now. I remember Scrivens starting game 1 for us, and Frattin getting off to a good start with Kadri. I believe he led the team in goals for a while at a staggering total of 7!!

With Bolland taking the 2nd. line center role, perhaps now is the time to trade Kadri for a 3rd. line center.

Phaneuf, Kadri, Liles, 1st.
for
T.J. Brodie, Monahan, Cammaleri, 1st.

Make this trade conditional on calgarys pick being top 5 and I would still have to think hard...

Phanuef back to the Flames might be a stretch ULF but I do like the addition of their 1st, it should be a good one this year.

Seems like you do these trades to get reactions out of people.

Is there any other reason to post a trade proposal?

Last I checked none of the proposals here impact reality, but are for discussion.

You disagree?

I take it your in the "not a Phaneuf fan" group. Never seen a more polarizing player for fans in my life. He induces red-in-the-face arguments around the fat steelworker crowds here in Hamilton.

Other teams fans don't have much of an opinion, but the leaf fans I know either hate him with every fibre of their being, or think he's a decent 1D. Not a lot of in-between.

If the goal is to make the Leafs a worse team, you've just done that in spades. Absolutely horrible.

When dealing with ULF_55 proposals, one needs to consider using Professor Frinks' Sarcasm detector.

Nick Kypreos: James Reimer and Jake Gardiner for a legitimate #1 NHL centre??

Hey guys,

On Hockey Central @ Noon, Nick Kypreos said that James Reimer might traded by the Toronto Maple Leafs by the NHL trade deadline because in his opinion, Jonathan Bernier will eventually take over the starting goaltender position from Reimer. Acording to Kypreos, if the Toronto Maple Leafs decided to trade both James Reimer and Jake Gardiner in a packaged deal, the club would definitely be able to acquire a legitimate #1 NHL centre in return.

I kind of like to give value to both sides of a trade.

Also, not too hung up on now, but looking longer term for continuous improvement, not a one and done.

T.J. Brodie for example is very much the Flames Franson. He's 23, a couple months older than Kadri, and there was a lot of discussion about long term or bridge deal for him. There was talk here (Calgary) about him being their 2nd. best defender last year.

So a bit of a gamble, but if Franson and Brodie develop as many fans are predicting could really solidify the Leafs defense without needing to pay Phaneuf like dollars.

Cammy is a salary dump, plain and simple and Liles is a salary dump.

Put it this way, I doubt the Flames would move Monahan anyway, he looks like he could be the real deal, and 6'2", 187 at 18 ... size down the middle.

Leafs' fans love Kadri
Flames' fan love Monahan

Ideally, it would annoy both to move either.

I remember two things though, Burke is not the GM and Burke is impatient.

Any trade that involves Phaneuf without a superior D coming our way is horrible. Period.

This team is slowly trending towards a win now mode, and you don't trade your 27/28 year old #1 D in these kinds of situations.

And let me say this bit - how many players in the league are as well rounded as Phaneuf?

This guy is one of the biggest hitters (when he hits), plays great D, has the offensive skills to put up 40+ pts a year while being a leader (maybe not the best leader, but a leader nonetheless.

He is basically a poor man's Chara/Weber.
