Some positivity is always nice to hear.
Two guys too close to the team to look at the move objectively.

I hope they're right, though.

Same here.....I'm cautiously optimistic..how can you not be with Holmgren making decisions from his gut and the crap fest we've had to endure to date.

It's pretty funny reading the ESPN comments that are saying that Holmgren and Clarke are the ones that need to go, not Lavi.

Unless there is a future change, this is from earlier today:

Berube will not have an interim tag on his job title. This is his team for the forseeable future.

Also let go was assistant coach Kevin McCarthy. The new assistant coaches will be John Paddock and Ian Laperriere.

Joe Mullen remains as an assistant coach who watches games from the press box and communicates with the bench. He will also continue to work with the power play. Jeff Reese remains as the goaltending coach.

I don't know, listening to his radio coverage Therien has shown a tendency to tell it like it is without sugar coating. I feel better seeing that quote from him, but time will tell if he's right.

Well we will get to find out if it's just the players or the system. I guess we'll find out.

let me guess, Riley Cote is head coach of the Phantoms

the way this organization makes changes is so predictable.
The Hitchcock and Laviolette hirings were predictable?

somethings never change.
Or you just ignore that the two main head coaches over the Flyers last decade were outside hires because it doesn't fit your narrative?

he does, but I really doubt he would publicly say he doesnt like the coaching change. I still think in this case he has to "toe the company line"

How? Berube was behind the bench as well...I don't see a change at all unless Berube is just an interim.

Just because he was behind the bench doesn't mean he had any power to change systems.

Why is it hard to believe that an asst. coach won't have a different approach than his HC? The HC is the final say of the team.

But I don't think he would have so fully endorsed Berube if he didn't truly feel that way.

If we make defense the prime motive for a little bit, I think it'll be easier to get into the zone on offense than we can even it out/polish.

I know little next to nothing about the strategies and control that goes into a pro hockey game but I always hear "Defense to open up the offense" thrown around which I don't understand literally but can figuratively understand. Can someone TLDR that phrase for me?

He said I have my own way of doing things or something to that effect. If the way the Flyers were playing under Laviolette was Berube's system or idea then he would have been the head coach not the assistant.

You can bet your ass that at the very least that players won't be taking shifts off without getting benched/held accountable anymore. That's what I'm most excited about.

I sit here on most days wishing that 94 WIP would talk more hockey, then when they do, in light of said firing, I realize why they shouldn't. sigh.

Glad to see that Mullen is still a part of the organization. He's got a good hockey mind and that's always a positive thing to keep around.

I just don't know how people can say this is a horrible move. Give Berube a chance to show off what he has learned through the years in hockey. He obviously has a great hockey mind and knows what he is talking about, let's give him a chance before calling for a new coach.

when was the last time a member of the Flyer family was canned. John Stevens does not count. He was a moron.
former Flyer players are almost never fired. they "step aside"
hence my loyalty comment. this organizations loyalty to former Flyers blinds them sometimes.
They really should of canned the whole staff in the offseason. That includes Holmgren.
The Flyers simply do not fire their own. Snider thinking this organization doesnt need a fresh perspective? give me a break. lirl

It's funny that it took Homer and Snider three games and a full preseason to act on what most fans saw a whole off-season earlier.
