Pacioretty vs JVR

Pacioretty went 22nd in 2007 as a power forward and yet JVR went 2nd over all also touted as a power forward. Both were playing in the US at the time and therefore I would think scouts mis evaluated one or both of them seeing as they went so distant to each other in the draft yet they are so close as NHL players.

Seems to me like more than 6 years after this draft both are awfully close given their draft positions and perhaps even I'd say Pac has been better thus far.

BTW both have played exactly the same number of games so far

Pacioretty 153 pts in 247 GP, career highs 33G 32A 65 PTS
Van Riemsdyk 133 pts in 247 GP, career highs 21G 20A 40 PTS

Who would you choose and why did scouts fail at the 2007 draft evaluating exactly the same type of players playing in the same country with one going so up high as 2nd overall and being dealt away by Philly.

BTW I know JVR isnt all that physical and honestly Pacioretty isn't either but they were both touted as power forwards.

JVR needs to be more consistent and I need a larger sample size of quality play from him.

So on draft day if Philly's GM would have said to his scouts - OK guys, here's the kicker, we're gonna go off the board with Pacioretty - people would have freaked out (like they did with Wheeler for exemple), but in hindsight, 6 years later, he would have been right - drafting Pacioretty 2nd overall.

Yes ?

I think JVR will have the better career. I am a Lesfs fan though and while I like the talent Pacioretty has, I don't like his attitude.

Pacioretty right now. Although, JVR looks like he has developed another step in his game this year so I'm intrigued on how does this year.

I always look at polls like this "If I click the button and they somehow appeared on my team, who would I want?"

Even as a Leaf fan with a JVR jersey that's followed him since his Flyer days, there's no way I'd take him over Patches.

Yes ?
No. If the 07 draft was re-done, 2nd overall would be P.K. Subban or Logan Couture. Then Jamie Benn. Then MaxPac or McDonagh. Then Voracek or JVR.

I also don't like his attitude, I mean, what kind of a player of his calibre accepts a contract that pays him only 4.5M a year? That's the kind of player who's thinking of the team first, and I don't want a "team-first" player on my team.

Both have a potential to score 40 goals.

I like JVR but you have to go with the guy who's proven he can be a top scorer. 30G and 65pts to JVR's 20G and 40pts. At the end of the year it will be closer, though.

leafs fan saying Patches. kid can drive a line all by himself.

JVR is more of a complimentary player on his line, like a Bobby Ryan.

And you can make this pronouncement for the 2013-14 season with 3 games played for JVR and 1 for Patches.

I think you were fibbing when you claimed to be a NEUTRAL fan

Patches, and it isn't close ATM.

Apart from being more productive, Patches is elite in terms of generating shots. He's been top-10 in shots per game for the past two seasons and has been Montreal's best possession driver for 3. His Fenwick and Corsi numbers last season were also among the leagues best (although its still to early to tell if that is a trend or the upper echelon of his impact in that area).

And for those saying Patches has maxed himself out, wait until he doesn't have to drag Desharnais around the ice.

Pacioretty isn't FAR better, but the obvious choice is Patches. It's like Pavelski or Backes; the answer is clearly Backes, but the gap isn't huge.
