Also during the cycle, he often watches the opposing player without taking the man or blocking the pass/shot (Cowen to Turris goal).

Definitely needs some work on how to neutralize an attack. Gunnar/Phaneuf should be able to show him how its done.

When the puck is on his stick though, the poise, decision making, effortless movement, vision and passing, its a thing of beauty.
You do realize that on a cycle you need to protect the seams and not chase...you play a rotation....he did his part. Franson was out to lunch as was Kadri on that goal.....

One game is not enough to say. Played poorly for the first 30 minutes of the game, then started to pick it up and played very well for the remaining 35. I dont see how you cant give him his 9 games at this point. Play him in the next 8, see what he can do. If he plays like he did in the final 35 yesterday, then Id say youd be pretty crazy to send him back. But it was just a good 35 minutes of hockey. Lets see some good consistent play before we do anything bat-**** crazy like APPOINT HIM AS OUR NEXT CAPTAIN.. COUGH COUGH..

He did nothing to deter Cowen. He didn't take the body or block the pass, or box him out. Not saying he played bad, in fact he had an impressive debut, just saying he could work on some stuff.

Can't wait to watch Rielly tonight. I'm really rooting for him to stick this season, my reasoning is simple: firstly he simply makes us a better team as I do believe he is an upgrade over some of our top 7, and secondly, he's outgrown jr imho and he benefits from playing with higher level players...Best of luck tonight Morgan

First game jitters out of the way. Im excited to see how he looks for the next 8 games of this tryout. Big decisions for Leafs management.

Agreed. He was steady defensively, and created a couple chances. Exactly what we need from him.

Looked solid out there again tonight. I gotta say, I underestimated him going into this season but so far he's impressed me, looks like he's transitioning into the nhl game smoothly.

Morgan may end up being a lot more defensively responsible than advertised...

In the same way Bernier always looks calm and composed and fills you with confidence, the same goes for Reilly. Yes, he will make mistakes, but I just love watching him play. Keep him with the team and I wouldn't be surprised if he is playing 20+minutes a night by mid-season.

No way he goes back to junior, kid is ready and he showed it last night. Sky is the limit, you can see his confidence growing with each shift.

Really hope our PP units next game are:

Gardiner - Phaneuf
Rielly - Franson

Would give us 2 lethal PP units with a PMD + heavy shot (The PMD's actually have decent wrist-shots too, not sure about Gardiner or Rielly's slap-shot though).

It's going to be hard to send this guy back. I thought he'd impress a little, but he really looks like he could fit in right now. Great at rushing the puck and getting things moving when he's on the ice. Aside from that first period in his first game his defensive side of the game is showing itself to be pretty solid.

Just surprising how well he can move the puck already and yet still get himself back in position. Has great sense out there about when he can make a move and when he can't.

Morgan is really impressing, and getting better each game.

Based on his performance to date I certainly wouldn't be sending him back to junior.

He might be outperforming 1/2 our defense at the moment.

"Play the Kids" I always say..

That's the D I go with TODAY. MacWilliam has been much much better then both Holzer and Fraser.
Ranger needs to GTFO he sucks. I'd rather have Fraser in then him. Replace Ranger with Liles for veteran support with Rielly and put Fraser in over MacWilliam on the 3rd pairing.

Honestly, it feels like he's gotten better each period through his first 2 games. Had the one hiccup yesterday where he coughed it up next to the net, but otherwise looked good to me.

I was in the let him play on and off for a 20 game span (get his 9 games) then send him back group, but if he keeps playing the way he has, being solid defensively while still taking chances offensively jumping into the rush and then recovering before anything can happen, I can't see him being taken out of the line-up, nevermind returning to junior.

also size and physically wise he looks fine, which is huge

hope he gets to play with Franson more who excels at knowing when to get the puck on net or in the zone at the right time to limit risk

nah, mess, you quite loudly said for the leafs to send Rielly back to junior.

you were very sure that a coach like Randy would never play all these offensive dmen on the same dcorps.

Anyone who advertised Rielly as an undersized, no-defense offensive defenseman didn't know what they were talking about.

I'm glad I don't have to make the decision on him. Tough to send him back now
