Just one? - Leino

Sabres have 2 compliance buyouts, right?

I'll say Myers and Leino in that case.

Myers is still very trade-able.

Stafford may be trade-able.

Leino is not trade-able, and is the only non-trade-able player with a cap hit worth buying out. He has to get healthy before it could happen though, so it's still a long shot, lol.

Myers contract bothers me far more than Leino or Stafford. Leino and Stafford will be gone before this team takes a shot at anything significant, Myers might be the giant albatros hanging in the corner that costs you a roster spot for Zadorov, Risto, Pysyk or whomever ends up in the top 4. Myers still has value but if you ask me whose contract needs to be purged from the books more, atm Myers' is looking awful.

If being really honest I think Hoff's contract is next on my list. He's a valuable member of this roster but how valuable is he gonna be in his mid 30's when (hopefully) he's being pushed down the lineup. The buyouts are about cleaning up your roster of crippling contracts. Leino and Stafford won't be here so long that they hinder our ability to manage the roster. Plus there isn't reall a flood of players looking to take those spots you probably end up replacing them with equivalent players for equal durations in free agency during a time frame where cap space isn't crucial to begin with.

Leino is the obvious one. After that, Hodgson and Myers are both dubious. Waiting on both.

To even consider a buyout of a player 4 games into a 6 year contract is... just bad.

I think it has to be Stafford. He's not as bad as everyone goes on about, but he's also not providing what he should -- consistent secondary scoring.

.
I was thinking of the same thing this morning after watching Myers last night play weak on yet another game winning goal against.

You are right; is there going to be an albatross contract that is going to be a roadblock when we want to win the Stanley Cup in 5 years?

I still think that Myers has some trade value. I'm sure Regier knows his current trade value. If not they should test the market come trade deadline.

I wouldn't have considered signing him to that contract.

Leino.

Then Ennis. I'm still hoping he doesn't turn into Afinogenov v2.0. He sure looks a lot like him some games. And not the good version either.

So?

Buying him out would be cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Trading CoHo because you didn't like his contract is an entirely different conversation. I would be stunned if CoHo isn't really movable with that contract.
